FSMS Physical Education Curriculum and Daily Procedures

General Class Expectations Students are required to change from school clothes to athletic clothing daily for PE as 50% of the class grade. This will take place in a locker room setting. –Athletic Wear consists of: Knee Length Mesh Shorts, Sweatpants, Crew neck T-shirts, Hoodies –No Slides, Flats, Boots, Boat Shoes, or Any other non-athletic shoe –No denim, yoga pants, pajama pants, tights, spaghetti straps, tank tops, or sleeveless shirts –PE Department will sell uniform shirts at the beginning of the school year (Not Required) Students will be required to participate daily as part of their grade (Daily Dress and Participation)

Expectations Areas of Instructional Focus: Sports – Students will study various sports with focus on skill development and gameplay. Sports studies change each quarter. Fitness – Students are required to participate in a weekly fitness test (12 Minute Distance Run). –Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) – Pre/Post-Test style assessment to measure student growth within the fitness category. FITNESSGRAM – As required by the State of GA and Douglas County, students are required to participate in a battery of fitness related tests. Results are recorded twice per year (Spring and Fall) and sent home with the students’ report card at the end of the 4th semester.

Expectations Grading Criteria will consist of: –Daily Dress Out and Participation – 50% –Fitness/Running Program – 25% –Skills/Unit Tests (For Sports Units) & Weekly Agenda Checks – 20% –Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) – 5% Students will be expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times while attending Factory Shoals Middle School No technology allowed at any time during PE. Violation of this rule will result in immediate confiscation.

Student Learning Objectives SLOs 6 th GRADE ONLY Mile Run Test for Time Pre/Post-Test Format at beginning and end of each 9 weeks Grade determined by growth from beginning to end Max. Time = 20 minutes

Locker Room Rules and Procedures Respect others, their space, and their property No gum, candy, food, or drink NO Horseplay Clean up after yourself If outside door is closed, you must go to the side door next to Coach Willis’ class.

Gym Expectations Dress out every day in correct clothing –Each day not dressed out, -5 pts Always sit in your assigned squad seat for attendance check Read essential question and record your answer in the agenda for that day Participate appropriately in the activity that your teacher has selected No Hitting, Racing, Flipping, Leap-Frogging, Chasing, Etc. No Cell Phones, Head Phones, Blue Tooth Devices, iPods, Tablets, PSPs, eBooks, Etc. –If you are not dressed to participate, you are not going to just have free time to sit and do whatever you want.

What happens if I don’t follow any of these rules and others? Students will NO LONGER receive warnings for these offenses. A demerit will be given for any infraction. Any Teacher can give you a demerit for a rule infraction.

Should a cell phone be heard or seen? Cell phones should not be visible in your pocket or on your waist. Keep them at home or in your locker!

Dress out for activity -Cardinal Red and Vegas Gold are our school colors -May wear T-shirt and shorts or warm-up pants and hoodie -Athletic shoes are a MUST -Must change from all school clothing
