1 WELCOME TO PHYSICAL EDUCATION Mr. DonlanMs. Knight Mr. BachMs. Palmer

2 Procedures  Students must dress in a Appropriate Mead PE Uniform.  Gray T-shirt, Green Shorts  Gym Shoes  Sweatpants/Sweatshirts are recommended when weather gets cold  A No Dress will result in a loss of all THREE of their daily participation points.  Students are given a lock to use and be returned at the end of the year.

3 Illness/Excused  Parent note:  Student is excused upon presentation of a written request  Good for 3 Consecutive days  Does not need to dress  Doctor note:  If students must be excused for more than 3 consecutive days, they must present a note from a doctor  On file with the school nurse and teacher  If there is no Doctor’s note on file, the student will be expected to participate

4 Grading Procedure  Participation:  3 points a day, 15 per week (5 day week)  Dress everyday in full uniform  Give best effort possible  Positive attitude  On time  Respectful to all students/teachers  Worksheets:  In most units, students will be asked to complete a worksheet on that particular sport/activity  Accompanied by a study guide  Late assignments will receive point deductions (2 points per day late) Students will receive a grade based on total points in the following categories:

5 Grading Procedure  Written Tests:  At the end of each unit, students will be given a written test Multiple choice, matching, true or false, written response  Each test will be about 20 questions  Students should use worksheet and study guide to prepare  Skills Tests:  In some units students will be tested on how well they perform on a particular skills test. ex: Soccer  Students are asked to give their best effort  Students may retake a skills test as many times as they would like  Re-takes will be given before school on particular days of the unit

6 P.E./Health Rotations  Students are required to take 9 weeks of Health each year  During the year there will be rotations of 3 weeks of P.E. and 3 weeks of Health beginning towards the end of fall and finished up in the spring  2 Teachers out in health, 2 stay in P.E.  Switch every 3 weeks until the 9 weeks of health are complete  Once the cycle ends, students will remain in P.E. for the remainder of the year.

8 P.E. Activities for 2015-216  Team Building  Ultimate Frisbee  Soccer  Volleyball  Social Dance  Floor Hockey  Pickle Ball  Track and Field  Physical Fitness Testing  Push-up, Curl-up, Standing Long Jump, Pacer, Mile Run  Hoops For Heart

9 P.E. Department Goal  Our goal for the 2015-2016 school year is to have 90% of the students at Mead be able to perform 10 or more push-ups, using the proper form taught in class.  It is suggested that students practice their push-ups at home!  Everyone has a floor and a minute or two each day to improve their fitness!
