High School Teacher By Caroline Waller

Who I Interviewed  Emily Clark  Used to be a high school teacher in Tennessee  She received her undergraduate degree in Spanish and then her Master’s in Teaching  Now she is teaching in college and working towards her doctorate

Teaching Comparisons  High School  Easier subject matter  Easier grading  Easier to find jobs  Class room management is much harder  Most of your job is controlling the students.  College  You do not have to worry as much about classroom management  Subject matter is harder and it takes longer to prepare yourself for lecture  Grading takes longer  Earning a doctorate is hard work!  Not as many job opportunities

Challenges and Opportunities  It is difficult to find a job as an English professor at a college similar to UNC  For teaching high school, there are many ways you can control your class room, although this can be difficult, especially as a new teacher.  Make sure that you choose a good school to teach at  Teaching is very time consuming, especially when you are a new teacher and don’t have your lesson planes set  The career is not well respected at the moment

Other things:  Educational paths  Activities to to participate in to prepare for teaching  Personal stories
