 I. During the 1920s and 1930s,totalitarian dictators took over in Germany, Italy, Soviet Union(Russia), & Japan.

 Totalitarian – political system in which the gov’t suppresses all opposition & controls all aspects of life (economic, political & social).

 Dictator – leader who rules with total authority; often cruel

 Fascism – political philosophy –total power is given to a dictator & individual freedoms are denied; no tolerance for opposition; centers around extreme Nationalism & Patriotism
