Bell Work  What was the Sugar Act? What was the Stamp Act? What were the Townshend Acts? This Day in History: October 23, Johnny Carson is born. October 23, Michael Crichton is born. October 23, An unknown soldier was chosen to represent all the unknown soldiers who died during World War I.

The Boston Massacre  March 5, 1770 British troops fire on a group of civilians.  Samuel Adams and Paul Revere quickly spread the news as propaganda.  The British soldiers were put on trial and found not guilty.

The Boston Tea Party  The Tea Act allowed the British East India Company to sell tea directly to the colonists, many merchants and smugglers feared this would put them out of business.  Colonists went aboard the tea ships at night and dumped 340 chests into Boston Harbor.

The Intolerable Acts of 1774  Boston Harbor closed  Massachusetts’s charter cancelled  Royal officials accused of crimes were sent to Britain for trial  Quartering Act passed  Quebec Act passed  General Thomas Gage became the new governor of Massachusetts
