2 Townshend Acts 1767  New series of indirect taxes on…  glass, lead, paint, paper, & tea  Writs of Assistance: blank search warrants used to control smuggling.  Led to more large-scale boycotts!

3  Sons of Liberty Attack Customs Agents  MA Governor calls British troops to Boston & dissolves MA legislature

4 Quartering Act  Required colonists to house & supply British soldiers!

6 Boston Massacre  March 5, 1770  British soldiers harassed by angry mob.  Accidental shots kill 5 Bostonians  Propaganda brands soldiers as murderers.

8 John Adams defended the Soldiers at their trial. Found Not Guilty Found Not Guilty

9 The Tea Act 1773  Parliament allowed the struggling British East India Company to have a monopoly in American Tea Sales.  American merchants fear being ruined!  Bostonians won’t allow the Tea to be unloaded.

10  Sons of Liberty board 3 British ships & dump 90,000 lbs. of Tea into the harbor! Boston Tea Party (Dec. 16 1773)
