Your child needs to bring the following items every day: -Water bottle -Bookbag -Learning Diary -Weather appropriate clothes - PE kit (although our usual PE days are Tuesday and Thursday this is subject to change so kits needs to be in every day). Please ensure your child has the right kit and no jewellery, earrings must be removed.

It is an expectation that all children complete work at home to reinforce what has been learned in class. Homework will be sent on a Wednesday to be returned the following Monday. All homework is marked on a Monday so any work submitted late will not be marked.

Reading – your child will be given a book each week and a set of comprehension questions or a related task to answer about this text. Spellings – a pattern will be sent weekly with some words to practise for a test the following week. Mental maths – a test will be sent fortnightly to practise for our mental maths challenge. Maths task – on alternate weeks the children will get a maths task to complete which will link to what they have been learning in class.

Your child will take home a guided reading book each week. This text should challenge their reading ability. They will also be able to choose a gold book which is a free choice. Bug Club will still be available for online reading, we are in the process of transferring classes.

Please check your child’s learning diary each day as this is where messages will be left. You will also find spellings, maths scores and school expectations. Reading should be recorded in the diary. Children should colour a book each day they read and the adult should initial. We expect children to read 4 or more times a week. Children who do this can earn rewards!

In Y1 we do lots of arts and crafts and sometimes get messy! To protect uniforms we suggest you send a large old shirt or apron. Please name these and keep them in a bag on their peg. It will be the child’s responsibility to put these on during art lessons.

We are excited to be going on a trip to Build-A-Bear in Croydon on 1 st and 2 nd of October. Unfortunately, the free bear has been stopped so we will be fundraising by selling biscuits.

Thank you so much for attending our ‘Who am I?’ exhibition on Friday. It was great to see so many of you and the children were so excited to share their fantastic work. Our next exhibition, ‘What helps me?’ is on Thursday 22 nd of October (sorry for the mistake in the newsletter). We look forward to seeing you then and sharing more of your children’s great work!
