2 General Info. o Children are developing independence throughout Primary 3. o Focus on correct letter formation. o Positive Behaviour Policy  Super Kid weekly assembly  Individual rewards moving to team points  Treasure chest prizes  Golden Rules  Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Respectful.

3 Rules Recap School Bags – red Oakwood book bags (priced at £5 and available from Mrs Joyce) Water bottles to have a suitable lid – closed tight when in lunchboxes please! Healthy breaks/ lunches. Toy and treat break day first Friday of every month. PE kits to be left in school and taken home at the end of each term. No jewellery (plasters over newly pierced ears)

5 Topic Based Learning o Ensures more connected learning for children. o Examples of topics to be covered this year……  All about Me  Lighthouses and Islands  Celebrations/Christmas Around the World  Birds Bugs Beasts  Weather  Pirates o(If you happen an expert on any of these areas… let me know!!)

6 Literacy Compose simple sentences independently – correct punctuation. Self checking/editing. Focus on handwriting using Nelson Handwriting scheme. At home- encourage using sounds, key words and risk taking “give it a go”. Continuation of computerised reading scheme - Bug Club! Reading for enjoyment Reading for understanding – essential for comprehension activities.

7 Numeracy  Numbers within 100.  Counting on and back in 2, 5, 10.  Money (giving change)  Sorting 2D and 3D shapes and describing properties.  Sorting using critera – Venn diagram and Carroll diagram.  Feel free to use online educational games – Topmarks, BBC schools, coolmathsgames.com

8 Homework Check homework diary weekly for tasks and notes. Homework to be signed by parent/guardian. Homework sent home on Monday and collected the following Friday. Child can feel comfortable working at their own pace. Drop me a note if your child has any issues with homework.

9 Homework Maths workbook – complete one page each week. Usually a game with a short written activity to follow. Literacy – written grammar, topic activity. Reading – Bug Club. One book per week with accompanying quizzes. Spelling – ‘Say, cover, write, check’ method.

10 School Trips Parent helpers very welcome but must be vetted and all paperwork up to date. Peter Pan performance - 2 nd October. Trip 2 … TBA

12 First Confession (Catholic faith) If you wish your child to make their Confession please let me know asap. Important dates: Enrolment ceremony – Wednesday 11 th November @ 11am. Confession – Wednesday 19 th March @ 11am. The whole class usually attend both services to support their friends, however please let me know if you would rather your child did not come to the Church.
