.62 STRATEGIC PLANNING Framework, Process, & Calendar June 2008 LOMA LINDA UNIVERSITY ADVENTIST HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER

. LLUAHSC Strategic Planning Framework BACKGROUND: The Board of Trustees of LLUAHSC have requested a LLUAHSC strategic plan. The plan will be recommended at the February 2009 meeting. The LLUAHSC Healthcare Ministry is entering the fifth year of a five- year planning cycle ( ). Changes in the market underscore the importance of reviewing and challenging previous planning assumptions. Further, there will be a need to initiate planning for the cycle, beginning in Concurrently, it is also intended that the Loma Linda University and other LLUAHSC “core entities” undertake and complete a strategic planning process in CY2009.

. LLUAHSC Strategic Planning Framework PLANNING FRAMEWORK (Overview): LLUAHSC Strategic Plan to provide broad themes and guiding principles that strengthen Mission, Vision, and Values. Health Ministry, University, and other core entity plans will have latitude to appoint own Leadership Steering Groups and “customize” specific approaches, consistent with overall framework. LLUAHSC will provide support for the development of the plans. LLUAHSC Executive Leadership to provide high-level oversight and direction to LLUAHSC and core entity planning activities to assure alignment and maximization of organizational synergies. Larger leadership group (e.g., LLUAHSC Officers Group) will serve as a forum for input and for communicating the plans to the broad organization

. LLUAHSC Interconnectedness LLUAHSC provides support services and shared functions that further mission and organizational synergy. Each support and shared function should have clear linkage points to entity functions, and vice versa. Support services (i.e. Foundation) –Investments –Endowments –Orphaned funds –Property acquisition & development Shared functions (i.e. Research) –Infrastructure –Clinical Trials Center –Research space
