 What is a missing person and how do they become missing?  Where can family and close friends get mental help from and what age group does this usually affect?  Why do people go missing or get kidnapped?

 A missing person is someone who has been missing and has not been sighted for longer than 48 hours. They may have tried to be contacted by their mobile and had no answer. After they have been reported missing to the police a search party is put out to help locate the victim. If they have not been located within 94 hours they will stop and wait to see if they return to their home. If they don’t return home within 48 hours they are classed as a missing person and will be announced to the public that they should look out for this person. A missing person can become missing by a) their own choice (as in they don’t want to be found) b) they have been abducted by either a family member or a complete stranger or c) they have committed suicide or had an accidental death.

 Many people who have had some one in their lives go missing they suffer from things like depression, anxiety etc. This can be because they are really close to this family member and have been really sad and worried about what they are going to do without them. Websites such as can help with any questions you want to ask it also shows you places to got that my help you with your issues. The salvation army website ( can help you locate missing family members and also the depression online website helps a lot by showing you how to get through your fears or your troubles.

 The mental issues usually affect teenagers aged 13 to 17 because they could be very connected to this person because they helped them face their own fears and get through their issues and now that their gone they don’t know what to do and how they should get through it and then they completely shut everyone and everything out.

 There are many reasons to why someone might go missing here are the most common reasons  Because they saw a crime and the person thought they might report it to the police so they kidnapped them  Because their parents had gotten divorced and one parent got custody of their child/ren and they wanted them back so they kidnapped them.  Because the kidnapper felt lonely and wanted pleasure and wanted power over someone for reasons like when they were a child they were abused by their parents when they were younger etc.

 When a child goes missing the family first are called and told that their child has been placed on the missing persons list and have to go down to the police station to put up information about this person so that the public can tell what they look like. Then if the police interviewing them they may suspect that they are suffering from something like depression etc. And can be sent to a psychologist.

 Every 40 seconds, a child goes missing in the U.S  A person can be declared dead in absentia or "legally dead” after 7 years of being listed as missing. This time can be reduced in certain cases, such as in mass disasters (e.g., Sept 11, 2001) or major battles  Approximately 2,300 Americans are reported missing—every day.

 More than 900,000 children get kidnapped each year and there is way more since the population has been growing and families should not have to deal with the fact that a member of their family is gone maybe for a short amount of time or maybe for forever but they cannot suffer that feeling of not knowing when they are going to come home or where they are or who they are with. I chose this topic because I find it really interesting to watch on the news when families get reunited with their loved ones they are so happy and how someone can just take their lives away from that person and not even think about what their families have to go through while you have them in captivity all alone.
