Learning Outcomes All pupils will understand how to draw a portrait of the person who inspires them in the style of Julian Opie. Most will draw their portrait accurately. Some will have drawn in a second tone in the hair and highlight in the eye.

There are 4 Sections to the Arts Award A) ‘Take Part in an Arts Activity’ like an art competition. B) ‘Arts Event’ like going to a museum or gallery like to review the work and exhibit and share our opinions. C) ‘My Arts Hero/Heroine’ researching an artist and the person who inspires you, create a portrait of the person who inspires you. D) ‘Arts Apprenticeships’ where you work with an Art specialist like your teacher to demonstrate your knowledge in e.g. a drawing demonstration. Which ones in the criteria do you think we have already achieved and why? Which criteria are we working on now in class?

Demonstration: TOP OF HEAD BOTTOM OF HEAD 1/4 WAY DOWN HEAD HAIRLINE MIDDLE BETWEEN HAIRLINE AND EYES IS THE EYEBROWS 3/4 WAY DOWN HEAD NOSE, BOTTOM OF EAR 1/2 WAY DOWN HEAD EYES, TOP OF EAR MIDDLE BETWEEN NOSE AND CHIN IS THE LIPS BOTTOM OF HEAD

Portraiture How does Julian Opie simplify his portraits? Watch... Turning a portrait into a Julian Opie piece (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-qEMV9ML-w)

Measure between the top and bottom of the head! Midway Review: Use a ruler to check the accuracy of your Julian Opie drawing study! Measure between the top and bottom of the head! Is the eyes and the top of the ears 1/2 way down the face? Is the hairline 1/4 of the way down the face? Is the nose and the bottom of the ears 3/4 of the way down the face? Is the lips in the middle between the nose and chin? Is the eyebrows in the middle between the hairline and eyes?

Review Does your work reflect Julian Opie’s style? Have you simplified... 1) The eyes to dots? The nose to either dots or a curve? The mouth to a wavey line? Have you used wavey or zig zag marks to show the texture of the hair? Have you drawn in a second tone in the hair?
