Bandwagon These ads/commercials tell consumers …..Everyone’s doing it so you should too!

EGO TRIPPING In these ads or commercials, the message is, if you buy this product , it will make you more… (beautiful, popular, exciting) Cosmetics and cars

Generalizations These ads/commercials often use comparison statements Like 4 out of 5 agree Medicine companies and toothpaste commercials Use general language We’re the best

Glittering Generalities Use language and visual images that draw the viewers attention These use bright colors and splash words on the screen

Name Calling Negative ads that try to put down a person or product in order to make the advertisers product look better.

Name dropping These ads/commercials use a famous person to pitch the product

Emotional Appeal These ads/commercials appeal to your emotions. If they can make you feel, then maybe the product name will stick in your mind. If you feel like laughing or crying then this method is working on you.

Slogans These fit easily into jingles or songs created to sell a product

Plain Folk These ads/commercials utilize an ordinary person (however they are usually actors) to pitch the product
