Becoming An Occupational Therapist Assistant(OTA) by: Ambria Pete

Why Would I Be An Occupational therapist Assistant I love helping people, especially when it comes to caring for a person in need. Naturally, i'm just a people person, i'm not good with pushing papers. Additionally, i think learning about the human body is interesting, the way your body moves the way it should move, and cures for illnesses or disabilities. So, its not only the caring for people that motivates me, to become an occupational therapist assistant but it it also the curing of disabilities

What We Do  As an occupational therapists assistant generally we:  help patients with therapy exercises  teach patients how to use special equipment  record patient's progress, report to the occupational therapist, and other administrative acts  work with children who've developed disabilities

What are our interests, our skills etc.?  Usually while an individual is in high school and decides in general he or she wants to work in the medical field regardless of what the specific job they want it would be important take a biology class and health class.  also it would be disastrous if this same person wanted to become an (OTA) and wasn't compassionate.  physical strength is important aspect of the job a well, how can you help a patient if your not strong?  interpersonal skills. These are like people skills, how are you with people, how do you interact with them? If you don't like people this is not the job for youbesides all of this still you must be detail oriented

How to become an (OTA)  in order to become an (OTA) the requirements for pre-med(medical undergrad) at Xavier you must have the following:  Reasonable grades (mostly A's and B's) in 40 semester hours of basic mathematics and science  e.g. One year of Biology with laboratory and One year of college-level Mathematics  Reasonable scores on the MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test), the DAT (Dental Admissions Test), or some similar standardized exam  Letters of evaluation from at least 3 college teachers, at least two in the sciences  A personal interview (by invitation only—if the first three look okay)

Job Opportunities  The job rate of occupational therapy assistants is expected to increase 43% from , much faster than the average for all occupations. Demand for occupational therapy is expected to rise over the coming decade due to the health needs of the baby-boom generation and a growing elderly population.  Demand for (OTA) is also expected to come from occupational therapists employing more assistants to reduce the cost of occupational therapy services.  job openings will also result from the need to replace occupational therapy assistants and aides who leave the occupation.  occupational therapist make $47,490 per year $22.83 per hour

Conclusion  So helping to rehabilitate people, i think personally should be my career. I would be great at working with people, and caring for them. Personally its worth two years of study at school. Being able to benefit someone in need. I'd love it.
