Romeo & Juliet Act 3 Scenes 1-5 By Corey Klein

Act 3 Scene 1 At a street in Verona Tybalt goes up to Mercutio and Benvolio who are talking, and asks them where Romeo is. Romeo enters and Tybalt wants to fight but Romeo does not. Mercutio gets mad at how they are acting and fights with Tybalt, while fighting Romeo steps in- between them and Mercutio gets stabbed. Mercutio dies and Romeo seeks revenge. After fleeing Tybalt returns and fights Romeo. Romeo slays Tybalt then fled before Prince Escalus, Lord Montague, Lady Montague, Lord Capulet, and Lady Capulet enter.

Act 3 Scene 2 Later that day after the big incident in Capulet’s orchard Juliet waits for the night so she can see Romeo again. The Nurse enters carrying a rope ladder. Juliet is puzzled and the Nurse talks to Juliet about Romeo slaying Tybalt. Juliet wants the Nurse to find Romeo to bid his last farewell.

Act 3 Scene 3 Later at Friar Lawrence’s cell Friar enters and notices that Romeo is hiding there. Romeo asks Friar what the punishment is going to be. Friar tells Romeo that he will be banished from Verona. There is a knock on the door so Romeo throws himself on the floor. The Nurse enters and tells Romeo to stand and they talk about the sadness of Juliet. Romeo threatens to stab himself but the Nurse takes the dagger out of his hand. The Nurse gives Romeo the ring and he feels more comfortable. Rome says goodbye to Friar and the exit in opposite directions.

Act 3 Scene 4 Later that night at a room in Capulet’s house Capulet, Lady Capulet and Paris talk. Paris and Capulet talk about Paris’s love for Juliet and a wedding between them. Lady Capulet thinks that Juliet is sad about the loss of Tybalt.

Act 3 Scene 5 Later that night, just before daybreak at Capulet’s orchard and Juliet’s room and balcony her and Romeo sit with the rope ladder hanging down into the garden. Romeo and Juliet say there goodbyes after the Nurse enters. Lady Capulet enters Juliet’s room and talk about the loss of Tybalt and that Juliet should marry Paris. Capulet enters to talk about the marriage between Juliet and Paris but Juliet begs not to marry Paris.

Act 4 Scene 1 Later that morning at Friar Lawrence’s cell, Friar and Paris enter and Paris explains that he will marry Juliet. Friar is clueless when Paris tells him that they are getting married. Paris acts real nice around Juliet and calls her his wife. Friar gives Juliet a poison that will put her to sleep for a couple hours so she doesn’t marry Paris.

Act 4 Scene 2 Later that day at a hall in Capulet’s house Capulet, Lady Capulet, the Nurse, and several Servants talk about arrangements for the wedding in two days. Capulet hands a Servant a quest list and the second Servant exits to hire more cooks. Juliet returns and apologizes to her father, pretending she is going to marry Paris. The Nurse and Juliet exit to go to Juliet’s closet.

Act 4 Scene 3 The evening of the same day, the night before the wedding. Juliet and the Nurse have been preparing Juliet’s clothing for the wedding. Lady Capulet enters to check on Juliet and say goodnight. Juliet drinks the poison and falls onto her bed, surrounded with curtains.

Act 4 Scene 4 During the night at a hall in Capulet’s house preparations for the wedding continue. The Servants are cooking and preparing the feast. Capulet tells the Nurse to go waken Juliet and get her ready.

Act 4 Scene 5 In Juliet’s room the Nurse enters to wake her up. The Nurse pulls the bed curtain open and and yells for help. Lady Capulet enters in response to the shouting followed by Lord Capulet. The are all shouting that Juliet is dead. Friar and Paris enter and Capulet tells them that Juliet is dead. They all cast rosemary leaves on Juliet. Peter enters and talks with musicians before exiting.
