Our Units of Study for the Year Overview of Forms of Literature Expository Text Exploration –Nonfiction –Magazine/newspaper articles –Research Narrative Text –Whole class and/or group novels –Literary Elements –Response to Literature Essay Reading and Writing Poetry Persuasive Texts –Persuasive Essay

Independent Reading Students need to bring an independent reading book to school every day. Students have time in class to read their independent reading books Tuesdays & Thursdays. No reading logs – instead students will have projects and/or essay questions to complete based on their book. Reading Response questions due October 11 th !

Late Work/Tardy Policy Late work is reduced a grade in value each day that it is late. Absences – students have as many days as they were late to make up work. Absent work will count against students until it is turned in. Tardies – students are considered on time to class if they are in their seat when the bell rings. Tardy policy is in students’ planners.

Last Things... Please check frequently so you and your students know what assignments are coming up. Sign up for Parent Connection so you can view your students’ grades online. Encourage your students to read every night. Check planners often. Help your students stay organized and on top of assignments! Talk about what we are learning in class!

Thank you for coming! Please don’t hesitate to call or me any time.
