homework folder recommended Independent Reading Book Agenda All assignments should be recorded daily. Let me know if you are not getting the info you need Textbooks –kept in locker- bring only when requested One marble notebook – to be left in classroom

4 Social Studies Curriculum:
Study 1 Culture and the development of civilizations- Ancient Egypt. Study 2 The classical worlds of Greece and Rome- The theme of this study is politics and government. Study 3 Middle Ages- Feudal systems- The theme of this study is economics and religion. Study 4 The Renaissance, the Reformation, Exploration and the Scientific Revolution- The theme of this study is communication through words, sciences and the arts.

6 English Language Arts (ELA) New Common Core Curriculum:
Close Read of : Non-fiction Fiction Short Stories Poetry Novels- independent, small group, large group, read aloud Balanced Literacy Reading Writing Listening Speaking 6TH GRADE ELA will be April 1, 2, and 3rd

7 Homework: Is listed on the board daily and should be copied into planner Either reinforcement of lesson or preview. Web based assignments on Castle Learning and ESPARK. Should review SS notes daily. ELA- READ!!!! Should be reading novel each night Always try! Send a note or if it becomes a problem. 10% of quarter average

8 Grading Large assessments (tests) are weighted 55%.
Small assessments (quizzes) are weighted 35%. Homework is weighted 10%.

9 Extra Help: I don’t have a set schedule for extra help , its
held on as needed basis Just ask anytime to set an appointment. before school after school usually set up extra help before a large assessment and invite the whole class. Students should be prepared with questions or specific areas of concern for extra help.

10 Success Program Opportunity for students to work with Grade 8 Honor Society students after school in the LMC Any subject area

11 Power School: Updated regularly Comments
Contact Guidance Office for access issues Assessments don’t need to be signed Contact me if you don’t use Power School

12 Attendance: Absent from school: Music Lessons
Ask the homework buddy to collect and bring home Call Guidance Office for illness that may result in 3 or more days out of school Music Lessons Students are responsible for the work they miss when at a lesson.

13 Miscellaneous items: Getting to class on time Leaving class
Plan out locker use- do not have time between all classes Need to be in class ready to go when the bell rings Leaving class Bathroom - Sign out sheet

15 What you can do to support your child:
Stay involved- ask questions. Show interest in his/her work, provide extensions at home. Maintain a sense of communication and partnership with us. Encourage independence. Check my website frequently. Check Power School for grades. Remember that we all want your child to be successful!
