Honors Lit. 11 Research Project Topic, Overview, and Requirements pts.

Topic for Research Choose a literary movement that we have studied so far:  Colonial  Romanticism  Realism & Naturalism What overall theme do you feel is emphasized and revealed from that specific movement and its literature? Provide evidence from literary works that came about during that movement to support your chosen theme. Five sources are required You may only use 3 web sites. Each must be credible. Class lecture and discussion notes should be cited using the textbook. Other evidence and literature will need to come from your own reading and research – you may use textbook, novels, and/or own reading for literature. Thesis statement should reveal your movements name, and the theme you are arguing is revealed from the movement and its literary works overall.

Research Project Overview Week 1 : Library - Planning & Preparation / Start Research  March 7-11  Wednesday – March 9 - Prewrite due (What you hope to find in your research) Chosen Movement / Theme / Potential Literature / Topics for discussion / Thesis Statement / Main Ideas / Details / Potential Sources You do not have to have all of the items listed above. They are just there to give you ideas. Basically, I just want to see that you are thinking and truly have ideas and plans. Week 2 : Library – Continue and Finish Research  March  Monday – March 14 – Initial outline due Outline must be in the form of the handout given to you as an example.  Friday – March 18 th – Last chance to turn in updated outline This is an optional deadline. You may make changes to your outline after turning one in on Monday. However, if changes are made, you must turn in an updated outline by Friday, March 18 th. Week 3: Typing Paper and Making PowerPoint  March  Meet in T9 – type paper and make presentations Week 4 : Research Project Due / Presentations Begin  March 28 You will be required to turn in research paper and handout of slides (3 per page).

Outline of Deadlines Prewrite – week 1  Due Wed. March 9 th Outline – week 2  Initial outline Mon. March 14 th  Optional deadline for changes to outline Fri. March 18 th Final Paper – week 4  Due Mon. March 28 th PowerPoint Handout of Slides – week 4  Due Mon. March 28 th Presentation – week 4  Begin Mon. March 28 th

Research Paper Guidelines Final Draft – Due Monday, March 28 th  5-10 pages (This does not include the works cited. You may not go over or under this page requirement without penalty.)  Times New Roman / 12 pt. font / double-spaced  MLA Style Full heading on first page (Name, Teacher, Class, Date) Running head = last name with page numbers - Starrett 2 This continues through the whole essay including the works cited, without starting over at any point. In-text citations – Authors last name and page number ………………. (Sinclair 90). Attached works cited page alpha order by authors last name double-spaced also

PowerPoint Guidelines This should simply serve as an “overview” of your research project.  Think… main ideas of your research results and some examples to help explain. Be creative! Include pictures and graphics for a higher grade.  Include citations under photos in presentation itself. Slide 1 = title slide  Include chosen movement, theme, and name Final slide = works cited for information (same as what is in your paper) + full citations for pictures. No requirement on amount of slides or time to present. Graded more on quality rather than quantity. You may use note cards while presenting. In fact, it’s encouraged! You do NOT want to simply read slides to us. You must dress up on the day of your presentation. We will go in alpha order by last name. Your presentation should be formal and informative, not an attempt to simply entertain.
