Netiquette Netiquette or “internet etiquette” refers to a set of rules to follow while online. Some of the rules of netiquette include. -Rules for Communication -Be Brief -Use whitespace to enhance readability -Use a specific topic sentence - Copy messages to the minimum number of people. -Be careful sending attachments, don’t make the to large. -Avoid flaming, or arguing through or messages. -Avoid using all caps when writing an or message, Information gathered from (Living Internet, 2011)

Copyright and Fair Use Copyright and fair use are a set of rights given to the author of an original work or piece. Copyright Protects: -The right to make copies of the work. -The right to sell or otherwise distribute copies of the work. -The right to prepare new works based on the protected work. -The right to perform the protected work (such as a stage play or painting) in public. Copyright and Fair Use The purpose and character of the use: -Is the new work merely a copy of the original? If it is simply a copy, it is not as likely to be considered fair use. -Does the new work offer something above and beyond the original? Does it transform the original work in some way? If the work is altered significantly, used for another purpose, appeals to a different audience, it more likely to be considered fair use. -Is the use of the copyrighted work for nonprofit or educational purposes? Plagiarism What is plagiarism? Webster's defines it as: -to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own -to use (another's production) without crediting the source -to commit literary theft -to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source. Safety on the Web Safety on the web is very important to learn for both children and teachers. Here are some rules to remember while on the web. -Do not give out any kind of personal information without parents permission. -Tell an adult about uncomfortable information -Never agree to meet anyone you have met online. -Never send pictures without permission first. -Do not give out passwords for internet. -Do not respond to mean or uncomfortable messages. -I will set up rules with my parents. (Doering, & Roblyer, 2010)

Safety on the Computer Safety on the computer is also an important issue today. -Be sure passwords are protected. -Update viruses protection is up to date. -Do not open attachments from unknown sources. -Do not open from unknown people. Information gathered from (Doering, & Roblyer, 2010)
