3. Netiquette on Social Media Sites  Netiquette refers to the etiquette guidelines that dictates behavior while communicating on the internet. It is usually enforced by fellow users who may quickly point out infractions.

Netiquette on Social Media Sites Do’s  Identify yourself  Include a subject line when appropriate  Respect others’ privacy  Be concise when communicating  Use appropriate language  Use appropriate emoticons and intensifiers to help convey meanings Don’ts  Try to be sarcastic  Send out spam or junk mail

5. Copyright & Fair Use  Copyright covers the creative or artistic expression of an idea.  Fair use is a limitation to the exclusive right granted by the copyright law to the author of a creative work.

6. Copyright & Fair Use (the difference)  Fair use can only be applied to copyrighted materials. It describes the conditions in which copyrighted materials can be used without permission.  The general rule of thumb is to use the material without you making a profit on it or the originator losing any profit-that is the essence of fair use.

7. Plagiarism  Plagiarism is when you cite information from another source not giving the author credit for it. 8. Safety on the Internet Terms related to internet safety:  Hackers are people that gain access to a computer system illegally. They normally steal and corrupt the data. (for adults this can lead to identity theft)  Password is created by the user that allows access to a specific computer program. (they should not be shared with others)  Cyber bully is someone who uses the internet to harass someone else.  Cyber stalking is when someone uses the internet, through chat rooms and e-mail, to find, identify, and arrange to meet a person who they intend to criminally victimize.

Safety on the Internet Rules for online safety  Do not give out personal information(address, telephone, etc.).  Tell someone if you come across information that makes you feel uncomfortable.  Never agree to meet anyone from online unless someone else is with you and meet in a public place only.  Never send pictures of yourself online to anyone unless you know them.  Never respond to mean messages being sent by people.  Never give out your password to an online account.  Always be a good online citizen, respecting others and the law.

11. Safety on your Computer Terms related to computer safety:  Virus is a program written for malicious purposes. (ex: worms, logic bombs, & Trojan horses)  Phishing is an identity theft scam where criminals send an email and it directs you to an e-commerce site. You are then asked to enter personal information in return they steal all of that information about you.  Firewall software protects a computer from attempts by others to gain unauthorized access to it and it prevents access to certain sites. (ex: Norton Internet Security & SpyWare Doctor)  Filtering Software limits access to sites on the basis of keywords, a list of off-limit sites, or a combination of these. (ex: Cyber Patrol & Net Nanny)

13. Safety on your Computer Strategies to Prevent Computer Viruses 1.Keep an updated virus protection. 2.Only download from sites that you trust and know. 3.Never open email attachments from unknown people. 4.Never open email attachments without verifying its intent.
