 The student will: 1. Understand the purpose of PowerPoint 2. Understand the capabilities of PowerPoint 3. Understand the different views in PowerPoint 4. Understand the groups, tools and buttons on the Home tab in PowerPoint

 PowerPoint is a complete graphics presentation program.  Presentations are also called slide shows  PowerPoint includes:  Word Processing – same features as Word  Outlining  Charting – create and insert charts and graphs  Drawing – Same tools as Word  Multimedia – add sounds and videos

 Basic Unit of PowerPoint is the slide  Slides contain one or many objects  Objects are the building blocks for slides  Objects can be a title, text, graphics, tables, charts, drawings, etc.  PowerPoint assumes the first slide in a new presentation is the Title Slide  The title slides purpose is to introduce the presentation to the audience.

 PowerPoint has 3 main views: Normal view, slide sorter and slide show.  A view is the mode in which the presentation appears on the screen.  Change views by clicking the buttons in the lower right corner

 Normal view has 3 working areas: Tabs Pane (Outline and Slides) Slide Pane Notes Pane

 The File Menu has same buttons as Word: New, Open, Save, Print, Prepare, Send, Publish and Close.

 Home ribbon has many of the same groups and commands as Word:  Clipboard: Cut, Copy, Paste, and Format Painter  Fonts  Paragraph  Editing  There are a few new groups…

 The Slides group contains:  New Slide: Create a new slide after the current slide  Layout: Change the layout for the current slide  Reset: Resets the position, size and formatting for the current slide  Section: Organize your slides into sections.

 Select the layout for the slide or…  Duplicate existing slides  Create slides from an outline  Reuse slides from a different talk.

 Select a different layout for the current slide

 There are 2 new buttons in the formatting group: Shadow – Adds a shadow effect to the font. Character Spacing – Adjusts the spacing between characters on the slide:

 The Drawing group allows you do the common drawing commands from the home ribbon. These commands are very similar to the Drawing ribbon in Word.

 PowerPoint is a graphics presentation tool  PowerPoint includes Word Processing, Outlining, Charting, Drawing and Multimedia  PowerPoint ribbons share many of the same buttons as Word.
