2 PowerPoint is a Presentation program which allows users to create anything from basic slide shows to complex presentations. The presentation may be a collection of slides that may contain text, charts, pictures, sounds, movies, or multimedia. Often called a Presentation Graphics Program. PowerPoint is often used to create business presentations, but can also be used for educational or informal purposes. The new and improved features focus on efficient methods of creating professional presentations that incorporate audio/visual effects to reinforce your message through the presentation graphics program. 4 PowerPoint’s various views enable you to see your presentation in a variety of ways.
For example, in Normal view, you can work with just one slide at a time, which is helpful when you are adding text or graphics to a slide. Alternately, in Slide Sorter view, you can view all the slides in a presentation at the same time, which makes it easy to rearrange the slides. Views

6 The Window in Normal View
The Filename appears in the Title Bar Slide Pane: Displays the current slide which you are editing. Shows how the slide will appear during the slide show. Slides Tab: Allows you to view multiple (thumbnail) slides in your presentation. 7 Allows you to see a Text Outline view of the slides in your presentation.
You can easily move and edit between slides. Create a Presentation by pasting an outline in Word into the Outline Pane. Any text from manually created text boxes does not appear, also text from graphical objects such as SmartArt does not appear in the Outline. There are no graphic or background, only the text shows. Allows you to focus only on the content, and not the design. Outline View

View the presentation in Slide Sorter View to easily rearrange slides. Shows several slides at once as Thumbnails. Displays all the slides in a presentation on a single screen. In Slide Sorter view, you can reorganize a slide show by dragging slides to different positions. You can also duplicate and delete slides in this view. Slide Sorter View

9 Notes Page view shows one slide at a time, with any notes that are associated with it.
Lets you create and edit notes. May be easier to work with notes in this view than in Normal view. You can print Notes Pages view for your use. Your audience will only see the slides, not your notes (only visible when printed). Notes It is recommended to keep words to a minimum on a Presentation – key only the main points on the slide. 10 Play your Slide Show in the window to see animations and transitions without switching to a full screen Slide Show. No Ribbons display giving more room to view each slide. Only displays the Title Bar and Status Bar. Good way to Preview your Presentation. Reading View

11 Slide Show view lets you play your presentation on the screen, so you can see it the way your audience will see it. No Window’s elements show, just the slide. Play the Slide Show from the Slide Show Ribbon Start from current slide to play the Slide Show from the Status Bar Also, select the F5 Function Key, plays the Show from the beginning. 12 View in Color or Grayscale
Grayscale is a viewing mode in which there are no colors, only shades of gray. When you print a presentation on a black-and-white printer, your slides might look different than they do in color. It may be useful to look at your slides in Grayscale mode so you can identify any potential problems that might occur when slides are printed without color. There is also a Black and White viewing mode that can check how slides will look with only black and white (no gray shades). Some fax machines transmit only in black and white. 13 Creating a New Slide A new slide can be inserted anywhere in
the slide presentation. Simply select the slide you wish to precede the new slide then click New Slide. A blank slide will be inserted after the slide that was selected or you can select a Layout when you insert the slide. Also you can simply create a New Slide using the Enter key when selected on a slide in the Slide Tab, to create a slide with the same layout. The default Layout for slide 1 in a new presentation is the Title Slide. Creating a New Slide

You may also change the Layout of any slide by selecting the Layout button on the Home Tab under the Slides group. Selecting a Layout

15 Other Ways to Create Slides
Using previously created slides or information can be a time-saving technique. Click New Slide drop-down arrow (Home Ribbon): Duplicate Selected Slides Slides from Outline (Imports from Word) Reuse Slide Under the Insert Slide from option, select Browse Find the PowerPoint from which you want to borrow the slide, select it and click on the slide you wish to add Other Ways to Create Slides

16 PowerPoint’s scroll bars let you move up and down through your presentation.
When you drag the scroll box in the Slide pane, a ScreenTip displays with the slide number and slide title. Click and hold a scroll button to move more quickly or drag a scroll box to move even more quickly. Use the Previous and Next Slide arrows to move one slide at a time. (Located at bottom of scroll bar) Move in a Presentation

17 Text is not typed directly onto a slide in PowerPoint, but instead is placed in text boxes.
Most of the available slide layouts have one or more placeholders that become text boxes when you type text into them. A placeholder is a box that can hold either text or a graphic object. The placeholders available depend on the slide layout selected. Text can be placed on a slide either by typing it directly into a text box or placeholder, or by typing in the Outline pane. 18 Saving the presentation will allow for future use of the presentation.
The 1st time you save a presentation file use the Save command. This will open the Save As dialog box, used to assign a storage location and filename. You can also change the File Type in the Save As Dialog Box. Storage Location File Name File Type Saving a Presentation

19 To save changes to a file that has already been saved, you can click the Save icon on the Quick Access Toolbar, under the File tab, or Ctrl+S. To Save an existing presentation with a New name, New location, or Different type, click file and Save As and make appropriate changes in the Save As dialog box. The extension for a PowerPoint saved in 2013 is .pptx. Saving a Presentation

20 To quit a PowerPoint Presentation – Exit the program using the X at the right end of the Title Bar.
To Close the current PowerPoint but leave the program open go to Backstage and select Close. Quit PowerPoint
