Presentation transcript:

 Born in New York, Ms. Perkins has spent most of her life in South Florida, where she has taught English and Drama for over ten years. Ms. Perkins holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, with a Minor in History, from Florida Atlantic University. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in English with a Creative Writing Concentration.  Ms. Perkins received her theater training in New York from the Circle in the Square Theater School and the Labyrinth Theater.  She has worked both on and behind stage for theater companies such as Shakespeare and Company in Lennox, Massachusetts, the Red Bull Theater and the Gallery Players in New York City; in addition to the Granbury Opera House in Texas and Miami Shakespeare (Florida).

 Good acting requires the security and confidence to make strong choices and follow them through to their conclusions. In order to accomplish this, students will be part of exercises that emphasize trust, both in themselves and their classmates, in order to develop the support system needed to make these choices.  Theater requires discipline, both mental and physical. Students will be expected to be off book and practicing blocking as soon as possible.  Middle school theater, in addition to teaching the basics of acting, is also geared for students to utilize the skills acquired in theater in other areas. Middle school projects are based on cross-curricular studies. Middle school scenes for the showcase will complement lessons in History and English.  High School projects are production based. Students will work with every aspect of theater in shows and competitions. The time commitment is exponentially greater.

 In class projects will be based on the time variable model; However, productions can not be redone.  Flipped model classroom projects – students create their own projects, guided and coached by me – pantomime, ensemble scene, monologues. They will be evaluated by preset rubrics and able to redo pieces until they have mastered that skill set.

Show Dates:  These are the dates of middle school, high school, and Thespian shows.  Becoming a Thespian  You’re a Thespian if you were officially inducted into a high school International Thespian Society troupe. You became eligible for induction into the honor society by completing at least 100 hours of excellent work in the theatre and related arts.  As a Thespian, you uphold the Thespian motto, “Act well your part; there all the honor lies.” You’ll find that this motto and the theatrical, leadership, communication, and organizational skills that you develop as a Thespian will serve you well for the rest of your life.  For information about scholarships, workshops, and the International Festival visit the EDTA Website:  Induction fee: $23.00
