South American Continent Argentina South American Continent

Geography 92% of people live in cities. Andes Mountains to the West Patagonia is rich with oil.

Economy They use the Argentine Peso. Agriculture: Sunflower Seeds, Lemons, Soybeans, Grapes, Corn, Tobacco, Wheat and Peanuts. Industries: Food Processing, Motor Vehicles and Textiles

Government President: 2 four year terms Have female president: Christina De Kirchner Vote: Must be 18 years of age Government structured like the USA: 3 Branches of Government (Legislative, Executive and Judicial)

Culture Most Argentines are of European descent which sets them apart from other South American countries. They are more European than South American. Official language is Spanish, but many European languages are spoken: German, English, and French.

Culture Education is free, but must buy books and uniform. No school busses…some ride horses to school Mandatory education for ages 6-14 years of age. Can go to the University but must complete 5 additional years of school and pass an exam. Best educational system in all of Latin America 97% literacy rate.

Culture Oktoberfest: Brought by German immigrants (Speak German) Carnival: Like Marti Gras…celebrated 2 weeks before Lent. (Spanish Influence) Snow Festival: Brought by immigrants from Switzerland and held in August. Soccer: Most popular sport
