Welcome to Kindergarten at Roosevelt School “Where College Begins in Kindergarten”

Kindergarten Family Meet & Greet Important Dates Kindergarten Screening Day Tuesday, August 21 9am-11am Please sign up for a 30 minute appointment. Maze Days Tuesday, August 21 5pm-7pm and Thursday, August 23 4pm-6pm Kindergarten Family Meet & Greet Thursday, August 23 3pm-4pm

Gradual Induction Process First Day of School (Parents stay with students.) Monday, August 27, 2012 8am-10am First Independent Day of Kindergarten (Parents drop off students.) Tuesday, August 28, 2012 8am-12:10pm Kinder Kamp August 28 to September 7 8am-12:10pm “Kinder Kamp” is the temporary placement period for Kindergarteners. Students will be assigned a permanent homeroom and daily schedule on Friday, September 7, 2012.

Kinder Kamp August 28 to September 7 ALL Kindergarteners attend school 8:00am-12:10pm “Kinder Kamp” is the temporary placement period for Kindergarteners. The purpose of Kinder Kamp is for the staff to effectively administer the District’s comprehensive Kindergarten Academic Assessment. Each student will be assigned one day to stay with the teacher, after general dismissal, from 12:10pm-1:30pm. The student will need to bring a bag lunch that day. It is very important for your child to attend the appointment. Many pieces of the assessment cannot be done in a group setting. Permanent homeroom assignment and daily schedule will be posted by 5pm on Friday, September 7.

Description of Kindergarten A typical day in Kindergarten includes: whole group activities small group activities independent work time transitions from one activity to another daily routines and procedures (e.g. Calendar Time, Library Time, and Arrival/Dismissal procedures)

Kindergarten activities consist of: reading writing listening speaking counting sorting graphing categorizing exploring inquiring discovering fine motor skills (All activities address the Kindergarten Academic Standards.)

Prepare for August 27th Read to your child. Talk with your child in complete sentences. Take your child to the library. Start a bedtime and morning routine. Give your child responsibilities and jobs around the house such as—putting the groceries away, setting the table, or making the bed. Take your child to the school a few times before the school year begins.

“Where College Begins in Kindergarten” Parent Involvement 5 Helpful Hints Meet your child’s teacher early in the year. Call, write notes, or stop by to keep in touch with the teacher. Use the classroom mailbox, and please read the Thursday Blue Folder every time it comes home. Support school and classroom rules and goals. Talk with your child about school activities daily.
