Agenda 1) Welcome and Introductions – Bill Fischer, SIG Chair 2) Updates from HC SIG Leadership 3) Updates from the SIG working groups 4) Program Updates - Debbie Brown, Programs Chair 6) Panel Discussion - Gamification in Federal Workforce Development Session Description Gamification – “the use of game-thinking and game mechanics ingame mechanics non-game contexts to engage users and solve business problems”, is being used by numerous Federal agencies throughout their human capital management processes, from recruitment to training and organizational development. Some perceive Gamification as a hype- driven concept that is very costly. However, many agencies are already developing “gamified” mobile applications for a fraction of the cost that it would take to develop in other modalities (instructor-led, WBT, etc.). Our panel of government and industry gaming practitioners will discuss their current gamification projects, how they are helping government agencies, and their visions for the potential of gamified applications to further enhance the government’s workforce development programs. Session Participants Moderator: Bill Fischer, President, Growth Matters An experienced human capital strategist and practioner, Bill formerly led human capital teams at SERCO and SRA International. He and his teams have focused on aligning human capital and learning strategies, staff, systems, and Culture with results-based management. Bill is the Chair of the ACT-IAC Human Capital Shared Interest Group. Panelists: Rory D. Schultz is the Director, Technology Division and Chief Technology Officer for the Food and Nutrition Service, an agency of the US Department of Agriculture. He is responsible for Infrastructure Operations Support and Customer Support, overseeing FNS’s network, mail and data servers, VTC, and telecommunications systems, and the IT Service Desk which provides end user support. Additionally, he is responsible for introducing new technology solutions and processes to FNS. Mr. Schultz holds a degree in Political Science with a minor in Theater (useful attributes in Washington) and is also active in external organizations such as ACT-IAC (American Council for Technology- Industry Advisory Council), having graduated from the Partners program in 2008 and serving as a vice-chair for the Voyager class of 2010 and Chair for the Voyager class of Dr. Alicia Sanchez, Games Czar to the Defense Acquisition University specializes in the implementation of Games and Simulations into a variety of learning environments. By using extensible production techniques, Dr. Sanchez focuses on saving time and money by created games that are easy to update as well as easy to use in a variety of settings relevant to almost any organizations infrastructure. The G&S initiatives at DAU specifically focus on the appropriate use of games within curriculum and emerging technologies that continuously redefine the potential of games based learning options. Stephen Stewart, President, Eviva Games – Stephen Stewart has been developing serious games for a variety of mobile and browser-based platforms for more than 10 years. With a background that includes public relations, marketing consulting and more than a decade as the Vice President, National Creative Director at global agency TMP Worldwide, Stephen brings an unrivalled combination of game development and advertising marketing experience to his role. Client’s Mr. Stewart has worked closely with include: Marriott International, Anheuser-Busch InBev, The Boeing Corporation and The U.S. Naval Reserve. Mr. Stewart is a graduate of Yale University, and currently resides in Berkeley, California.
