2 Advancing Government through Collaboration, Education and Action Gamification – defined as the use of game-thinking and game mechanics in non-game contexts to engage users and solve business problems, is being used by numerous Federal agencies throughout their human capital management processes, from recruitment to training and organizational development. Some perceive Gamification as a hype driven concept that is very costly. However, many agencies are already developing “gamified” mobile applications for a fraction of the cost that it would take to develop in other modalities (instructor-led, WBT, etc.). game mechanics 2 Gamification: Hype or Reality?

4 Advancing Government through Collaboration, Education and Action Joseph Camacho, Director, Joint Knowledge Development and Delivery (JKDDC) Program Office Chief, Joint Knowledge Online (JKO) Division, DJ7 J7 Joint Staff 4 Joseph Camacho is the Government Program Director of the OSD sponsored Joint Knowledge Development and Delivery (JKDDC) program. JKDDC is part of the original foundation of the Training Transformation (T2) program to advance joint capabilities and interoperability by addressing emerging joint training requirements via collective and individual training. The capability is most widely recognized today as the Joint Knowledge Online (JKO) training platform delivered under the JKDDC program. Today, JKO is the system of record for Joint Staff online training requirements in addition to the T2 mission-role of delivering online training for individuals deploying to joint exercises and joint mission operations. Mr. Camacho has been instrumental in the application and advancement of distributed learning as a training multiplier for the joint force for the last decade.

5 Advancing Government through Collaboration, Education and Action Alicia Sanchez, Games Czar to the Defense Acquisition University Specializes in the implementation of Games and Simulations into a variety of learning environments. By using extensible production techniques, Dr. Sanchez focuses on saving time and money by created games that are easy to update as well as easy to use in a variety of settings relevant to almost any organizations infrastructure. The G&S initiatives at DAU specifically focus on the appropriate use of games within curriculum and emerging technologies that continuously redefine the potential of games based learning options. Alicia completed her doctoral work with the University of Central Florida, at the Institute for Simulation and Training’s Modeling and Simulation program. Since completing her degree, she served as a Research Scientist at the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center prior to being named Defense Acquisition University’s Games Czar. 5

7 Paul Hearing, Sr. Producer, Badgeville 7 As a Sr. Producer with Badgeville, Paul designs and implements gamification and other programs that increase user engagement & change user behavior. Paul joined Badgeville from BLVD Labs, a gamification platform and consulting agency, where he was the Founder and CEO. Prior to BLVD, Paul managed global digital lifecycle and direct marketing initiatives for clients including Nordstrom, Hallmark, Xbox, Delta Air Lines, Kohl's, and Napster, for Experian Marketing Services. Paul's passion for and experience in emerging technology and marketing began during the dot-com era working in product and community management for a startup social network for college students.

10 Advancing Government through Collaboration, Education and Action Kevin Rogers, CEO and Founder of Cyperpath Mr. Kevin Rogers is the CEO and Founder of Cypherpath LLC, a group of cybersecurity training and education thought leaders who promote disruptive technologies and offer innovative products to advance the cybersecurity workforce. Kevin’s career started as a founder and vice president of sales with Knowlogy Inc., a technology training company, during the 1990s. Then, for 10 years he was Vice President of Public Sector at Global Knowledge. Kevin founded Cypherpath in 2010 and is focused on bringing to market innovative and disruptive products for cybersecurity training and education, building the foundational infrastructure upon which virtual learning, on-demand lab environments and immersive gaming solutions can be widely implemented. 10
