LIGHTNING ARRESTER device which provides protection Lightning arrester is a protective device which provides protection against high voltage from lightning. A Lightning arrester has two terminal viz a high voltage terminal and a ground terminal. It is used only for overhead line.

Current transformer Current Transformer is an instrument transformer used to protection & Metering of high values of current. Current Transformer:- A C.T is used to step down current for measurement, control and protection.

Potential transformer Potential Transformer:- Potential Transformer are Instrument Transformer. A P.T is used to step down voltage for measurement, control and protection.

ISOLATOR It isolates the devices from live line when there is a maintenance. It operates when there is no load. It is also used to change bus bar line from main to reserve or vice-versa.

CIRCUIT BREAKER TYPES OF CIRCUIT BREAKER- A Circuit Breaker is an automatically or manually operated electrical switch designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by overload or short circuit. INSULATORS In order to avoid current leakage to the Earth through the supporting structure, insulators are used in the conductor of overhead transmission lines

POWER LINE CARRIER COMMUNICATION For exchange of data and transfer message between grid substation , Voice communication is necessary. For this purpose high frequency Carrier current is transmitted on same transmission line on which power is transmitted. Hence such communication is called- “POWER LINE CARRIER COMMUNICATION”. .

CAPACITOR BANK Capacitor banks are used to improve the quality of the electrical supply and the efficient operation of the power system. Studies show that a flat voltage profile on the system can significantly reduce line losses.

CONTROL ROOM To remote control of power switch gear requires the provision of suitable control plates located at a suitable point remote from immediate vicinity of CB’s  and other equipment.

BATTERY ROOM & CHARGER In a GSS, Separate dc supply is maintained for signaling remote position control, alarm circuit etc. There is a battery room which has 55 batteries of 2 volt.
