Welcome to year 3 and 4 transition meeting. Friday 3 rd July 2015 We will be organised as two classes of year 3 and two of year 4 but will have the same themes.

This will be the teaching team. Year 3. Miss Craddock, Mr Broderick Year 4 Miss Burridge (soon to be Mrs McDaniel), Miss Barker, Mrs Baldi, Mrs Byles, Mrs Barnfield,, Mrs Price, Mrs Osborne, Mrs Phoenix, Mrs Moore, Mrs Shaw

We have spent a great deal of time looking at class list. They are still not quite ready! We will monitor all children. We will have them ready for Wednesday 8 th July as the children will be visiting their new classes. This is followed by Thursday 9 th July meet you the new class teachers after school.

A reminder that there is savings facility being offered by the Credit Union, personnel will be in school on Thursday 9 July during open evening...

Reminder that there is no more universal credit in Y3 So unfortunately no more free school meals for all.

Life in year 3 and 4 is very hard working but also great fun! With regular visits as well as visitors. Already planned-: theatre visit, Food bus, Anti bullying workshop, music lessons, Kingswood residential. Well planned educational visits are already being organised. for the year.

Good notice is given for all visits with a weekly paying system in place to support easier payment. We do hope to take the children to London to visit the Science Museum.

We expect all pupils to follow the school dress code, wearing black school shoes as part of the uniform. Long hair needs to be tied back each day. Only small stud earrings which can ideally be taken out for PE or covered up with plasters provided from home.

PE is at least once a week. It is best that kit comes to school on a Monday and stays for the week. There will be swimming lessons in the summer term.

It is really important pupils are in school every day so they don’t miss any work! Also there is great competition to win the attendance award each week!

It is really important that children are in class for 8.45 as they have work waiting to be completed This is the time that they have an opportunity to practice spellings, tables and handwriting.

Reading is a big focus in year 3 and 4 and we ask that parents support this by hearing their child read every night. The termly news letter has some helpful questions on it to test children’s understanding of what they have read.

Homework is set each week on a Wednesday. It is usually tables and spellings to learn, reading and a piece of English or Maths to practice what is being covered in class

Each class has a reading challenge. If a child records four reading sessions at home, over one week they can earn a Golden Time.

Each term the children are asked to produce a piece of work on the theme of that term. We thank all the parents for their support. We get the feeling that the parents have all really enjoyed the project making.

A great many rewards schemes operate in all the classes. Also there are rewards which operate across the school. There is the Golden file, attendance awards, lunchtime rewards and many sporting awards.

The termly newsletter will inform you of the main areas we are studying each term and also early warnings of any trips. It also has some ideas for the questions you can ask to test your child’s understanding of their reading book.

The school website has a great deal of useful information on. The year 3 and 4 put on regular blogs to illustrate the activities we have been involved in.

Year 3 and 4 are both very important years and it is essential pupils are in school all the time. We start work as soon as the bell goes at 8.45 so we do ask that, unless it is urgent that parents meet with us after school. Most staff are available at the end of each day but we do ask you are patient if we can’t see you straight away, we will make sure we meet at the earliest opportunity

If there are any problems it is best that they are managed straight away. We do managed many issues in school by talking to all pupils concerned. If it is resolved without any one person to blame we often will not discuss every issue with parents. If there is an on going issue we will keep parents informed.

From September we will be assessing your child’s progress without the usual levels, 3A, 3B, 3C. This will be replaced by describing your child as entering, embedding or securing a year group. This is new to all of us, staff, children as well as parents so we will all be learning together.

I hope this has been helpful and answers your questions and reassures you that the move to Key Stage Two will be a smooth one. Any thing else you would like to know?
