Question 3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Medium -Big budget $ Big stars – well known Emma Watson Daniel Radcliffe Based on a very famous book that then became part of a franchise. It is more like a product since it is based on a book, there are so many sequels made from it, video games adapted by it and also merchandise. Special Effects – ‘spectacle’ very high budget special effects that were made by experts. Such as motion capture. High production values It is made so that everything is perfectly clear and well filmed to the audience with no faults what so ever. Also looks very fancy in terms of production. High profile marketing campaign Marketed by the company that owns the franchise highly very expensive marketing involving TV adverts, billboards and newspaper articles. Low budget $ New, emerging talent Not well known actors and directors. This was the director Gareth Edwards’s first ever film. The actors were never even heard of. Genre & content more attracted to a niche audience Not based on a franchise, storyline written by the director to give something new and experimental to the audience. Which is very risky because not many people around are interested to see something that just emerges out of the blue. No expensive special effects – character & narrative drives the film Edited by Gareth in his bedroom with Adobe Premiere and After Effects. These two very similar software are accessible by anyone for a certain amount of money they aren't too expensive and they can be used to create cinema quality footage. Production values reflect low budget Promoted by a small independent company called vertigo films. So the Production values were really low compared to Harry Potter. Small crew involved and Just one camera a Sony Ex3 which can be purchased by anyone. Small marketing campaign No big ads or marketing very small amount of promotion because of the restricted budget. Mainstream film Harry Potter Independent Film Monsters OUR FILM IS AN INDEPENDENT FILM. SINCE OUR BUDGET WAS VERY LOW AND OUR ACTORS WERE NOT FAMOUS PLUS IT IS NOT PART OF A WELL KNOWN FRANCHISE IT IS AN INDEPENDENT FILM. BELOW I MADE A COMPARISON TO OTHER 2 FILMS ONE IS MAINSTREAM AND THE OTHER IS INDEPENDENT. YOU CAN SEE HOW SIMILAR OURS IS TO AN INDEPENDENT ONE, IT IS TECHNICALLY THE SAME.

In conclusion, since our film has: Low Budget. Has no big stars. It is not based or part of a franchise. Has no high budget special effects. It would be released by and independent media institution because mainstream Hollywood film companies would just simply not release it because of the high risk values it has. Even though all this we still have a large audience group that we are sure of because of our plot and what the film is about.
