Rise of a King Samuel was last judge of Israelites. People wanted a king to rule over them. Samuel anointed Saul as king of Israel.

David Saul anoints David as king (Saul is still king) Famous for defeating Goliath, a Philistine giant David fought many battles for Saul and eventually became more famous than Saul “Saul has slain thousands, and David his tens of thousands” Saul attempts to kill David and goes out to hunt him down. Both Saul and his son Jonathan die in a battle against the Philistines. David returns as the king of Jerusalem
