What is Title I & How Can I be Involved? Annual Parent Meeting (School Name) (Date) Rowland Unified School District

Definition of Title I: Title I provides federal funding to schools to help students who are low achieving or at most risk of falling behind. Title I is allocated to schools based on the percentage of student receiving free/reduced lunch. Schools with a percentage of at least 40% are eligible for a schoolwide program.

(School Name) operates a Title I Schoolwide Program.

Schoolwide means: The school uses Title I funds to upgrade the entire educational program of the school. Title I funds are used to serve all children in order to raise academic achievement. Title I funds will be used to provide additional assistance to all students who experience difficulties in meeting the State’s performance targets. The school must collect and analyze data that effects student achievement. The school must develop a comprehensive site plan and annually review the effectiveness of the plan.

School-Parent Compact A School-Parent Compact for Achievement is an agreement that parents, students, and teachers develop together. It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all our students reach or exceed grade-level standards. Effective compacts: o Link to goals of the school improvement plan o Focus on student learning skills o Describe how teachers will help students develop those skills using high- quality curriculum and instruction o Share strategies parents can use at home o Explain how teachers and parents will communicate about student progress o Describe opportunities for parents to volunteer, observe, and participate in the classroom The School-Parent Compact for [School Name] can be found at [insert handbook/website/etc…]

Parent’s Right to Know – Student Achievement Rowland Unified School District notifies parents of results on State Assessments (SBAC) by mailing results home when they are received by the State. RUSD sends parents CELDT results annually. Additionally, parents are notified of Initial results within a 30 day window of the student enrolling in the district. Parents meet with teachers at Fall and Spring Parent Conferences, and may contact teachers at any time during the school year to discuss the achievement of their student.

Parent’s Right to Know – Non-Highly Qualified Teachers Schools are required to notify parents if their child has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher that is not highly qualified. 100% of Rowland Unified School District teachers are considered to be Highly Qualified for the school year.

How Can You Be Involved?

Parent Involvement Opportunities Examples: o School Site Council o ELAC/DELAC o Morning Break Clubs o Parent Advisory Councils to the Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent o PTA o Booster Organizations (Secondary) o Volunteering at the School o Attending Awards Assemblies o Attending Back-to-School Night o Attending Conferences o Parent Literacy Events o Family Math Night o Family Science Night o Attending Open House o Attending Plays, Sporting Events, Extra-Curricular Activities

Parent Involvement in Decision Making The most important way parents can be involved in decision making at the school is by being involved in School Site Council. Additionally, involvement in PTA and Parent Advisory Councils with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent are all important groups that provide a voice for parents to share their ideas to the district.

Right to Request Meetings Upon the request of parents, the school must provide opportunities for regular meetings for parents to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions about the education of their children. The school must respond to any such suggestions as soon as practicably possible.
