1 Title 1 Annual Parent Meeting
Isom Elementary Nov. 10, 2017

2 What is Title 1? Title I provides federal funding to schools to help students who are low achieving or at most risk of falling behind. Title I is allocated to schools based on the percentage of student receiving free/reduced lunch. Schools with a percentage of at least 40% are eligible for a schoolwide program. Explain funding and how it is linked to NCLB

3 School-wide Means… The school uses Title I funds to upgrade the entire educational program of the school. Title I funds are used to serve all children in order to raise academic achievement. Title I funds will be used to provide additional assistance to all students who experience difficulties in meeting the State’s performance targets.

4 Requirements for School-wide Programs
Teachers must be highly qualified Parent Involvement Policy and Home/School Compact Parent involvement activities including Annual Meeting Annually examine data in five areas: Student Achievement Curriculum and Instruction Family and Community Professional Development School Context and Organization Briefly explain areas of data analysis

5 Requirements for School-wide Programs
Provide supplemental instruction to students at-risk academically Use teaching methods that are based on scientifically based research Use assessment data to determine who is at-risk and how much progress they have made during the year Explain curriculum and assessments used at Isom including proficiency level expectations

6 School Improvement Plan
Overall Isom students do better in English Language Arts than Math Isom students perform well on IREAD Isom subgroups perform about as well as the average Greenwood subgroups Last year Isom students increased the number of 3,4,and 5 scores on the writing portion of ISTEP+

7 School Improvement Plan
Isom has a strong intervention system in place including interventions in English Language arts and math Isom parents have many opportunities to be involved in their students’ education Students feel bonded to Isom through Ethic of Care and many after-school opportunities for involvement

8 SIP Goal Isom students will demonstrate a student proficiency (passing rate) of 80% passing in math by May 2018 as measured by ISTEP+.

10 Parent Involvement Policy
Multiple opportunities to be informed Regular and timely communication Multiple opportunities to be involved Highly trained teachers Help with transitions Annual evaluation with parental input Home/School Compact Annual meeting, surveys, letters to parents of students participating in intervention group Conferences, PTO meetings, teacher and phone numbers PTO, report cards, parent reports, family literacy nights Kinder and MS transitions

11 Parents have the right to request opportunities for regular meetings for parents to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions about the education of their children. We will respond to any such suggestions as soon as is practically possible.
