Data/MTSS Team Training September, 2014

Learning Goals Data/MTSS Team members will be able to assist teachers in using data to write a SMARTer PDP goal. Data/MTSS Team members will be able to explain how deliberate practice and the use of professional learning communities and lesson study can be used to help teachers reach their goal and most important….improve student performance.

Professional Development System Florida Statute “The purpose of the system is to increase student achievement, enhance classroom instructional strategies that promote rigor and relevance throughout the curriculum, and prepare students for continuing education and the workforce.”

Job-embedded Professional Learning Deliberate Practice- Intentional change in instructional practice where teachers grow their expertise through a series of planned activities, reflection, collaboration and evaluation. Professional Learning Communities –Setting goals –Focused practice – Debriefing Lesson Study –Planning – Observing and discussing teaching, and –Monitoring your progress

Smarter Goal (handout) S pecific-precise and clear M easurable-quantifiable A chievable/Attainable-meet common sense test R ealistic-represent objectives that will work T ime bound-have an end point on calendar E valuate-regularly and adjust as needed R e-Do-after evaluation process

Student Needs Goal 65% of students in the SWD subgroup will meet proficiency levels in reading on DEA, EOC or state exam. 60% of students scoring a Level 1 or 2 will increase proficiency in reading as evidenced by DEA (or other measures available). 65% of my students will make learning gains in reading as measured by DEA (or other measures available).

Teacher Needs Goal My goal will be to increase my understanding and mastery of the new LAFS by participating in a LA standards professional learning community. I will also use DEA to provide continuous monitoring for student progress in reading.

PDP Goals Using the hard copy of the PDP and the SMARTER Goals chart, individually write a SMARTER student and teacher goal. Share at your table.

Teacher Self-Assessment PGS Section I Self –Assessment helps teachers focus on areas of growth and professional development needs. –The self-assessment is the same as the teacher evaluation observation rubric. –Should be completed prior to the teacher writing his/her goal. –Does not impact teacher evaluation.

Professional Growth System PDPs—Getting Started –By the end of the first nine weeks grading period (Oct. 21), teachers will Write SMARTer PDP goals using current student data (self-assessment data, student data, teacher certification needs, school improvement needs) Identify professional development needs –Be sure to share/finalize before exiting

Professional Development Needs Assessment Section II On PGS using the drop-down menu select no more than 3 training areas that will help teachers meet their student and teacher goals

Reflection/Tracking Progress On PGS/Section 11, Step 3 At the end of the 2 nd nine weeks of school, (end Jan. first of Feb.) teachers will complete section 11, step 3 by reflecting on “Deliberate Practice” and the data resulting from the Deliberate Practice.
