2 Objectives for this session The SLT will…  Have a thorough understanding of High Quality Standard 5: Educator Growth and Development  Recognize and celebrate areas that exemplify this standard’s functions.  Complete the HQ Std 5 Rubric collectively and demonstrate proficiency in utilizing the tools necessary to analyze the results.  Utilize tools to conduct further needs analysis in specified areas based on their data.  Develop a plan for conducting the Rubric and specified needs analysis with the entire faculty when returning to school.  Have a data driven HQ Std 5 Plan that full aligns to the Strategic Plan

3 HQ Standard 5: Standard V – Educator Growth & Development In high quality schools, staff members participate in processes of self reflection, collaboration and evaluation that lead to professional growth and development in order to impact student learning. Function Category Function A – Professional Development  The staff engages in continuous learning opportunities for professional growth designed to improve school and classroom practice. Function B – Teacher Collaboration  The teachers participate in high functioning professional learning communities to collaborate on the improvement of students learning through the study of relevant data, problem analysis and the implementation of strategies that improve instructional practice. Function C – Evaluation, Feedback and Support  The staff participates in processes of evaluation that facilitate self-reflection and informs the process of professional growth.

4 Show and Share  5.A.1 The staff works with others to elevate the teaching profession by promoting and supporting continuous improvement efforts.  5.A.2 The staff supports instructional improvement through structured opportunities for ongoing discussions about instructional practices and the sharing of ideas.  5.A.3 The staff designs embedded professional development opportunities to support instructional improvement leading to increased student achievement and success.  5.A.4 The administration rewards accomplishments of the school, staff, and students.  5.B.1 Teachers participate in collaborative teams that work interdependently toward common student achievement goals.  5.B.2 Teachers collaboratively reflect on data and assessment as they work to plan instruction and assess student progress.  5.C.1 Principal observes instruction on a regular basis and provides feedback to support teachers in instructional improvement.  5.C.2 Principal develops and implements induction and orientation structures and processes to support success and retention of new faculty.

5 Rubric Rollout As a SLT collectively complete the HQ Std 5 Rubric Record your results Brainstorm how would you as a team roll out this Rubric in your school.

6 Developing a Plan Complete the HQ 5 Educator Growth and Development Plan Template Section “HQ Rubric”:  When and how will this be administered to the staff (paper-pencil; electronically, etc)?  When and how will the leadership team review the results?  When and how will the results be conveyed back to the teachers and staff?  When and how will the leadership team create a school-wide goal/goals?  When and how will the leadership team monitor and provide feedback on the goal progress?

7 HQ 5 Rubric: Analyzing the Results  Using the Multi-Voting tool to analyze the results and develop a list of potential professional development needs that are ranked and prioritized.  Write one goal and two objectives for your school based on the results. This goal should be a smart goal that is measureable.

8 Other Tools utilized to develop specified educator growth areas Based on the results from the HQ5 Educator Growth and Development Rubric there may need to be more investigation into particular areas of need:  Instructional Practices Inventory - Student Engagement  Reflective Teaching Practices - Teaching Practices  Co-Teaching Core Competencies - Co-teaching practices  Critical Issues for Team Consideration – Collaborative Teams Note these are sampling of the types of tools you may utilize, others are available based on your schools results.

9 Select a Specified Tool Each team member selects a tool they would like to further investigate.  Instructional Practices Inventory - Student Engagement  Reflective Teaching Practices - Teaching Practices  Co-Teaching Core Competencies - Co- teaching practices  Critical Issues for Team Consideration – Collaborative Teams

10 Specific Tools SLT Debrief Questions 1. Was this an effective tool to determine the need of this area? 2. How could this be used to determine staff professional development needs based on the results? 3. How could the SLT create a PD goal from the results? 4. How could we identify and celebrate quick-wins based on the data? 5. How could we utilize this tool to monitor effectiveness?

11 HQ5 Educator Growth and PD Plan Return to your School Leadership Educator Growth and Development Plan Template Section: “Specified Tools”:  Why was the specified tool selected based on our data?  Who will utilize this tool?  When and how often will this tool be administered?  When and how will the leadership team review the results?  When and how will the results be communicated? Individually and school wide?  When and how will the leadership team create a school-wide goal/goals?  When and how will the leadership team monitor and provide feedback on the goal progress?

12 Create your HQ5 Goal Utilizing your Educator Growth and Development Plan, create a goal that you will submit on the Strategic Plan. Remember it must be a SMART goal (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timeframe).
