2 Why Use the Snyder Student Rubric
CAPA Report Items, Pt. 1   STANDARD 2: CLASSROOM EVALUATION /ASSESSMENT Multiple evaluation and assessment strategies are used to continuously monitor and modify instruction to meet student needs and support proficient student work. 6.2.2: Students can articulate the expectations, know requirements, and assess their own and others’ work.

3 Why Use the Snyder Student Rubric
CAPA Report Items, Pt. 2   STANDARD 7: LEADERSHIP AND NCLB SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE The school leaders have organized the school by focusing on teaching and learning through the communication of a clear vision, mission, and goals; maximizing use of all available resources; creating a learning culture with high performance expectations; and effective planning with input from all stakeholders.

4 Why Use the Snyder Student Rubric
CAPA Report Items, Pt. 3   2.2   How do students know what is expected; and are they able to articulate expectations, share their work, and reflect on others’ work? Teachers use a variety of verbal and written means to inform students of expectations. Some students can articulate what is expected of them and relate the expectations to the lesson. Some students share and reflect on each other’s work; however, this is not a commonly observed classroom practice.

5 Why Use the Snyder Student Rubric
CAPA Report Items, Pt. 4   Challenges: Teachers use a variety of measures to assess and monitor the progress of student learning, but do not always provide specific, meaningful feedback to enable students to meet or exceed expectations.

6 Snyder Student Rubric EQ
Will the student rubric replace my own grading system and/or the grading system from the district-approved curriculum? No. It is a tool to establish uniform expectations for how we want students to perform in all areas of their academics. Continue to score student work as you have, but use the rubric to prepare for student conferences and to have students self-reflect on their performance.

7 Procedure for Implementing the Rubric and Progress Report
Introduce rubric to students Make rubric and visible Incorporate student self-reflection Use with revised Interim Progress Report

8 Make Rubric Visible Suggestions: Post rubric in classroom
Embed on course website or wiki Provide copies for each student  Refer to rubric frequently: Student-Teacher conferences Written comments on student work As part of assertive discipline/classroom management

9 Incorporate Student Self-Reflection
Have students self-evaluate performance throughout marking period. Provide opportunity for written reflection and goal setting. Consider incorporating rubric into a survey. Sample Student Rubric Survey
