Standard 1: Teachers demonstrate leadership Standard 2: Teachers establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students Standard 3: Teachers know the content they teach Standard 4: Teachers facilitate learning for their students Standard 5: Teachers reflect on their practice Time 1 minute Review 5 standards. Today we will focus on Standard I.

John Quincy Adams Time: 2 minutes Refer participants to the Rubric for Evaluating North Carolina Teachers. This page (page 20 in manual) explains the ratings which were discussed in the History and Purpose session. Scoring the Rubric (page 31 in manual) explains the rating process. Today we will discuss Standard I and practice scoring the rubric for Standard I.

4 Standard I: Teachers demonstrate leadership.
A. Teachers lead in their classrooms: Take responsibility for all students’ learning Communicate vision to students Use data to organize, plan, and set goals Use a variety of assessment data throughout the year to evaluate progress Establish a safe and orderly environment Empower students Time: 1 minute

5 Standard I: Teachers demonstrate leadership.
Example evidence: A. Teachers lead in their classrooms: Rules are posted, classroom is neat, materials are organized Works with department/grade level to analyze test scores to determine student needs and plans lessons accordingly Assesses student learning in a variety of ways and uses assessment results to implement changes in lesson planning Understands importance of students’ passing the grade or course that they teach Provides tutoring sessions before or after school to help struggling students Time: 1 minute
