April 17, 2012 Expanded Success Initiative List of Approved Organizations

66 organizations have been approved to provide component services for short-term capacity building in discrete activity areas in ESI schools. Component services will begin with the 9th grade cohort. Listed organizations have been notified whether they’ve been approved to provide services under (1) TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, and/or (2) DIRECT SERVICES in these program areas: 2 Academic PracticesYouth Development PracticesSchool Operations and Improvements Programmatic RigorPostsecondary Planning and Tracking Tools Postsecondary Inquiry Postsecondary ExposureStrength-based YD and School- based Program Design Summer Learning and Bridge Programs Academic Behaviors and Cognitive Skills College and Career Advisement Student Leadership Digital LiteracyRestorative Approaches *Component services and activity areas are described on pages 6-9 of RFL Overview & Instructions document. RFL SERVICE AREAS

3 RFL PROCESS SNAPSHOT Schools and selected organizations jointly submit Scope of Work (SOW) to FPS Principals and/or Network Representatives and approved organizations negotiate services within approval areas (pre and post school selection phase) Schools notified of approved organizations Schools may contact approved organizations Design Challenge award recipients and their selected organizations from the approved list jointly draft Scope of Work FPS contracting and service begins pending SOW approval Design Challenge award recipients announced (June)

4 ACTIVITY Apr-12May-12Jun-12Jul-12 Listing available to schools April 16. External Partnership Matching—Schools review and engage approved organizations for possible partnership (pre and post school selection phase). Design Challenge application deadline. (May 10, 2012) Announcement of finalized cohort of 40 schools in June. Services begin between Design Challenge award recipients and their selected organizations from the approved list. (after July 1, 2012) TIMELINE: APRIL 2012-JULY 2012

Schools are not obligated to partner with an external organization as part of ESI. If they opt to do so, they must choose from the list of approved providers. Schools initiate contact and will do so either as an individual school via Principal or across schools via Network Point People. Schools may initiate contact both before and after school selection phase. It will be possible to insert approved organizations post school selection phase. Throughout the three-year grant period, there will be subsequent calls for RFL applications and new organizations will be added to the listing. Communication across multiple schools within a Network is particularly encouraged to negotiate economies of scale with organizations. Principals and Network Point People should feel empowered to approach organizations with this in mind. In cases where schools have not been able to identify a partner in their Design Challenge applications, schools may opt to include a placeholder in the budget for partner insertion in a particular area post school selection phase. Budget amendments can be made but will need ESI team approval. 5 VETTING ORGANIZATIONS

Schools may opt to procure services in a particular activity area (i.e. digital literacy) or across a component service (i.e. all activity areas under technical assistance) within the approval areas for each organization. Schools may opt to partner with multiple organizations from the approved list. Design Challenge award recipients and their selected organizations from the approved list will agree upon a Scope of Work with services within the approval areas and pricing for one year of service. Schools may not use ESI funds to work with external organizations that are not on the list of approved providers. Design Challenge award recipients and their selected organizations from the approved list will present the agreed upon SOW to FPS and then organizations begin the FPS contracting process. Pending SOW approval, contracts can begin after July 1, 2012 for one year of service. Contracts are renewable within the grant period pending agreement between the organization, school, and FPS. 6 WORKING WITH ORGANIZATIONS

7 NAVIGATING THE LIST The list can be found on the Information about Partners page on the ESI wiki: You’ll see a few cells of information for each organization-namely boroughs served, contact information, annual operating budget, implementation flexibility on the proposed services, and the program areas that each organization has been approved in. Some organizations have chosen to upload an online VoiceThread presentation which can be accessed in the column that precedes the approved areas. The full application, which includes descriptions of and outcomes for the approved service areas, can be accessed by clicking on the name of each organization.
