2 Creating Pathways for Education, Career and Life Success Developing the Pathways Plan - Purpose:  The primary purpose of this webinar is to provide additional preliminary information on the Pathways Planning process so that participants of the face-to-face workshop on January 25 th come prepared and are ready to jump right into the planning process and further development of their Pathways Plan.

7 Creating Pathways for Education, Career and Life Success Reminders:  The goal of this process is to help programs align with legislation and national expectations.  Career Pathways is NOT “just another initiative,” but rather how we do business in adult education, a strategy that ensures services are coherent and focused toward achieving outcomes.  This is not an “everything at once” process, but rather a multi-step process with the expectation that full implementation happens by June 30, 2014.

10 Creating Pathways for Education, Career and Life Success Planning Form:  Describe current activities to be sustained  Describe new activities that will be implemented  Describe steps that will be taken to implement new activities  Include timeline for when new activities will be implemented keeping in mind full compliance of the Plan must be complete by June 30, 2014

11 Creating Pathways for Education, Career and Life Success Assessing Current Activities and Initial Planning 1.Review CP resources 2.Meet with staff to discuss what current activities should be sustained and what new activities should be considered to support a CP approach to services 3.Begin to discuss how you might implement new activities

12 Creating Pathways for Education, Career and Life Success Completing the Pathways Plan Partnerships: Getting Your Relationships in Print  MOU – articulates a specific relationship (withstand loss of key personnel, helps to maintain consistency) Statement of Commitment –defines the actual agreements in the relationship, and the commitment statement can set the context, quality or sentiment behind the relationship. Specifics – if you need specific people or very specific resources to perform a specific function, then spell this out in the agreement.

13 Creating Pathways for Education, Career and Life Success Completing the Pathways Plan Partnerships: Getting Your Relationships in Print Elements of an MOU:  Purpose – articulate the desired outcome in tangible, reliable terms and describe benefits to your program  Mission Statements  Activation Protocols – clearly define situations under which MOU is activated and who has authority to do so  Response Procedures and Obligations – what is going to be done? Who is going to do it? Under what conditions and when? Who pays for what?

14 Creating Pathways for Education, Career and Life Success Completing the Pathways Plan Partnerships: Getting Your Relationships in Print Elements of an MOU (cont’d):  Out Clause – circumstances under which parties are unable to meet obligations  Financial Terms  Annual Review  Termination Clause – include notification period and how it should be carried out  Signature and Date  Internal Review and Approval

15 Creating Pathways for Education, Career and Life Success Completing the Pathways Plan Partnerships – Planning Form Example: “Partnerships will be expanded and solidified in writing”  List of key partners  Attached ‘Partnership Matrix’ that explained details of partnership, whether it currently existed or when it would be developed and implemented  Attached copies of MOU’s currently in existence

16 Creating Pathways for Education, Career and Life Success Preparing for January 25 th  complete the “Current Activities” and preliminary ideas in the “Planned New Activities” sections of the Pathways Planning Form in each of the component areas  Bring copies of your draft plan for each of your team members who are attending this event

17 Creating Pathways for Education, Career and Life Success Preparing for January 25 th  Bring a copy or a few copies of resources that you use in your program or of which you are aware (that have not already been shared) that relate to career pathways and might benefit other programs, i.e., sample forms or MOU’s, a table of contents from a printed resource, a landing page of a valuable website, a sample lesson plan, a visual roadmap of how students flow through your program, a description of how services in key Pathways component areas are currently provided in your program, etc.

18 Creating Pathways for Education, Career and Life Success Preparing for January 25 th Objectives – Participants will: Become informed as to the commitment of Career Pathways from DOE and state partners. Become familiar with and have an opportunity to review leading Career Pathways resources. See samples and examples of completed Career Pathways Plans from programs of different sizes and serving various student population groups. Share current promising practices with each other. Brainstorm new Pathways practices on key component areas. Have an opportunity to further develop their Career Pathways Plan. Share highlights of their Career Pathways Plan with other participants.
