Netiquette Top Rules of Netiquette when using the World Wide Web learning/articles/26946.aspx

Be friendly, positive and self- reflective when responding on the internet.

Be Positive When people cannot see you, and also do not know you, feelings can be hurt if you are not careful in how you express yourself.

Think Before You Speak The old saying, think before you speak is important. Things you say can and more than likely will hurt other internet users’ feelings if you don’t think before speaking.

Think Before You Write A word of advice: Do not respond when you feel angry, wait. Write down your thoughts and come back When you reflect, you may find that you no longer feel as strongly as you did when you began. Reflection time makes a difference.

Be Considerate of Others If you feel the need to be heard, then edit before you post, and write it in terms that are easily understood. Critique in a positive tone. Reread what you have written to be sure it is positive. Never hurt the feelings of your peers

Copyright and Fair Use A copyright is a property right attached to an original work of art or literature.

Qualifying for Copyright Protection Work must be: Original In a fixed or tangible form of expression Creative to certain degree

Copyright Laws Cover Musical works Motion pictures and audiovisual works Dramatic works Literary works Pictorial graphics and sculptural works Sound recordings OF WORKS

Plagiarism Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone else’s work and passing it off as your own. Basically it’s stealing someone else’s hard work and using it for your own benefit.

Be Careful The Internet has made plagiarism easier than ever before. Although not normally a crime, a person who plagiarizes is subject to being sued for fraud or copyright infringement if prior creation can be proved

Safety on Your Computer Choose good passwords and keep them in secure locations. People’s lives are ruined daily because of identity theft. Never give your password to another person. Do not talk to strangers online. Use secure websites at all times.

Make Smart Choices Don’t just give away information to anyone. Someone could use your identity and get you into a lot of trouble with the law. Not even friends should have your information. They might not be your friends for too much longer.

Web Safety Do not give your personal information to anyone. Communicate with others responsibly Be aware of strangers Use privacy settings and sharing controls Do not believe everything someone tells you on the web

Exhibit good Internet Habits Always abide by Copyright and Fair Use Policies Use safe internet habits at all times Be polite to others while on the web Keep all passwords and personal information confidential Never give personal information to strangers. Happy Surfing!!!!!
