3 Copyright and Fair Use Copyright and fair use are a set of rights given to the author of an original work or piece. Copyright Protects: -The right to make copies of the work. -The right to sell or otherwise distribute copies of the work. -The right to prepare new works based on the protected work. -The right to perform the protected work (such as a stage play or painting) in public. If it is simply a copy, it is not as likely to be considered fair use. -Does the new work offer something above and beyond the original? Does it transform the original work in some way? If the work is altered significantly, used for another purpose, appeals to a different audience, it more likely to be considered fair use. -Is the use of the copyrighted work for nonprofit or educational purposes? 6 Safety on the Web Safety on the web is very important to learn for both children and teachers. Here are some rules to remember while on the web. -Do not give out any kind of personal information without parents permission. -Tell an adult about uncomfortable information -Never agree to meet anyone you have met online. -Never send pictures without permission first. -Do not give out passwords for internet. -Do not respond to mean or uncomfortable messages. -I will set up rules with my parents.
