Thursday – September 12, 2013 Mr. Lombardi Aim: How can we acquire, organize, and analyze the elements of a map? Do Now: Look at the map (handout). Identify the seven continents and four major oceans on a separate sheet of paper. (you may work with a partner)

REVIEW: The 5 Themes of Geography

Vocabulary copy down the following words and definitions in your notebook: 1.Hemisphere – a half of the earth. Can also be split into four equal quarters. 2.Equator – line of latitude that divides the earth into northern and southern hemispheres. 3.Prime Meridian – line of longitude that divides the earth into eastern and western hemispheres. 4.Tropic of Cancer – line of latitude north of the equator. 5.Tropic of Capricorn – line of latitude south of the equator. 6.International date line – line of longitude east of the prime meridian where the calendar date is one day earlier than the west.
