Mrs. Burley’s and Ms. Brocato’s 2 nd Grade Class Welcome to Seussland

Graduate of the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Education – Go Bulls! This will be my 20 th year of teaching. I grew up in Clearwater, Florida 3 miles away from the beach, which is a favorite place of mine. I am married and have two beautiful daughters. I absolutely LOVE to read and my biggest hope is to instill a love of reading that will last a lifetime in your children. Mrs. Burley

Graduated from the University of North Florida - SWOOP! This is my first year teaching and I am extremely excited begin my journey in the classroom. I was born and raised in Duval & Clay county. In my spare time I love to do Zumba at the Y as well as tumble. Ms. Brocato  Fun Fact! If any student had Mrs. Sheriden for 1 st grade, she was also my 1 st grade teacher back in 1997 :D

English/ Language Arts This year, we will working with two new programs that the Clay County School District has purchased for us. – Making Meaning – Being a Writer You will not see as many worksheets as we will be using more critical thinking strategies in the classroom. Students should be reading a minimum of minutes a night. Along with the weekly homework packet.

Math/ Science/ Social Studies Students will be learning Math in a variety of ways including whole and small group, centers, manipulatives, as well as journaling in a composition notebook. Reading skills will also be emphasize during Math instruction with the use of literature, word problems and journaling. Math homework will be given with the homework packet on Monday. Science and Social Studies will be done on a daily basis, however there will not be an homework assigned in the weekly packet, but students may sometimes have some research to do on a given concept. All workbooks and journals are to stay inside the classroom!

Odds and Ends Birthdays – If you would like to recognize your child on his or her birthday you may send in a treat for the whole class of 18 students. We also ask that you do this at your child’s lunch time 12:15- 12:40. Allergy Alert! Please be aware that we are a nut free classroom! Which includes peanuts, tree nuts, almonds, etc. Inexpensive head phones are suggested for each student for use during classroom computer time, technology class and testing. Wish List – Kleenex, Clorox wipes, individually wrapped candy, Paper Towels, small items for treasure box; Other things are welcome.

How to Request A Conference If you are interested in meeting with Mrs. Burley and Ms. Brocato regarding your child’s progress in class, please send us a note in your child’s planner, call or us. Mrs. Burley Ms. Brocato Phone: ext ext Conferences are scheduled before and after school on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Unfortunately, we can not meet during student contact time. This includes first thing in the mornings as students enter the classroom.
