4  Expectations of Parents/Guardians › Stay in tune with your child’s work through the use of the planner › Sign planner nightly › Check/empty take home folder nightly to stay current with any papers sent home › Maintain open lines of communication between home and school and keep me informed › Encourage your child to be a risk taker

6  In our classroom we are: › Respectful › Responsible › Risk-takers  We are rewarded for this through : › Extra recess & special celebrations  If our behaviors show otherwise, we: › Are not rewarded with extras › Have a note sent home discussing our behavior choices › Visit with Mrs. Morrison and Mrs. Murray to develop a plan that helps us be successful, responsible, respectful, risk- taking members of our classroom community

7  Your child will have homework nightly  Most nights will consist of math and reading  On a typical night, homework should take about 40 minutes  Find a time/place that works for your child and your family to get the homework done  Homework is assigned nightly as a form of practice and carry over from the day’s lessons…at no point should homework look completely foreign to your child

8  ELA – Reading › Reading will be taught through a district selected, research based program - LEAD 21 › Reading will also be supplemented through CAFÉ Reading and The DAILY 5  ELA – Writing › Writing will be taught through Lucy Caulkins’ approach to the Writer’s Workshop

9  Math › Math will be taught through a district selected, research based program – enVisions  Science › Science will be taught through a hands on approach, supported through “science kits” provided by BOCES  Social Studies › Social Studies will be taught through the use of district created materials › Children will study the history of our nation through the eyes of NYS, more specifically Western New York › Social Studies will be taught with Mrs. Winiecki

10  Monday – Physical Education  Tuesday – Library  Wednesday – Art & Physical Education  Thursday – Physical Education  Friday – Music & Technology  Daily – Lunch @ 12:10

11  If your child is absent, please email or call Mrs. Murray, Mrs. Ginter or Mrs. Reichert to let us know  When your child is healthy enough to return to school, please send in a written excuse  If your child is going to the club after school, please send in a note, spotlighting the day(s) they will be attending › If your child is attending the club on a regular basis, please send in a note, and a bus pass will be provided for them

12  If your child wishes to celebrate their birthday at school, please feel free to send in birthday treats  Treats can be dropped off in the office and Mrs. Reichert will let us know they are there, and we will celebrate during the day  We have 18 children in our classroom – no allergies  If your child is having a birthday party and you plan on inviting children from school, please send invitations from home. When children bring them to school they become a distraction.
