Lesson 5 – Other ways to ground the rocket

Today’s lesson will help build 4 skills that are essential to resolving conflicts and preventing violence: 1. listening 2.Showing empathy 3. expressing emotions constructively 4. Responding constructively to others’ anger

How do you define empathy? What do you think empathy has to do with conflict resolution?

Empathy The ability to identify or imagine what other people might be feeling or their perspectives of a solution Putting yourself in someone else’s shoes

Skills of expressing Emotions To resolve conflict it requires that both people are able to manage their anger, listen to one another and think about the situation from both sides of the conflict

Telling my side of the story Take ownership of your thoughts, opinions, and feelings –Say: –I think… –I feel… Rather than: People say that Everyone else thinks/feels that…
