OUR IDEA IS: #TurningGarbageIntoTrees #TurningGarbageIntoTrees is an ecosystem centered approached that enables urban slum communities become actors for climate resilient development through community collaboration while accelerating environmental education and rural livelihood formation. Draw and describe the ideal user. Title: Southern Leyte Action Philippines Name: Tadog Age: 53 Profession: Scavenger Profile: Head of family with 6 children and a grandfather of 4 kids Concisely describe what is happening : Lack of skills, assets and education trap scavenger communities in extreme poverty. Tadog, is one of many individuals without real properties and financial resources took chance to migrate in urban centers. And, with misfit talents and skills find it difficult to get employed in urban societies. There are 3 rd generation scavengers living in informal settlements and this will continue to exist if we do nothing.

Potential partners convene to clarify vision identifying roles and interventions that provide proof of concept and encourage wider engagement launching the collaborative project and established a hybrid governance that would serve as a local backbone working team. Concisely describe what is happening: Local backbone group identifies sectors and target beneficiaries that will be involved and creates working committee in delivering transformational leadership workshop to these communities. This will allow initial community engagement to work through behavioral change, beliefs & attitude changes necessary to inspire sincere cooperation and achieve genuine collaboration for inclusive business aspirations to get started.

Compost soil, river sand, bamboo & nipa are essential resources in quality seedling production. Establishing multiple community school tree-plant nurseries & gardens helps market these products while giving livelihood opportunities for the school linking the less privileged sectors in society in the web for developmental actions. Concisely describe what is happening: As there are already existing national government policies in the Philippines to incorporate climate resilient programs and projects in every community local government units annual budget preparation, therefore, the SDG target missions is so achievable. More importantly, implementing environmental institutionalism into our school system as one key to advancing sustainability in the future is now everyone’s concern. Marginalized becomes shareholders entrepreneurs for coffee/chocolate industry business ventures initial steps in the basics for resilience building.
