Heart Defects By: Jenna Terry

What is it? The Heart Defect i am talking about is congenital heart defect. It is when your heart has a hole in it. It is usually caused by STRESS! It is the most common birth defect in children. I HAD THIS DEFECT AS A CHILD!

Medical Problems These defects can involve the walls of the heart, the valves of the heart and the arteries and veins near the heart. Congenital heart defects can disrupt the normal flow of blood through the heart. The blood flow can Slow down Go in the wrong direction or to the wrong place Be blocked completely

Discovery of better Treatments Doctors now think it is best to wait to have surgery until 6 years or older of age. They now think that you can grow out of it in time but in 1991 they didn’t know if you would live without the surgery immediately

My Opinion I think that kids that have heart defects can live a normal life like: working, playing sports and being able to do anything anyone does. I am a living proof that any kid with a heart defect will be just as healthy as any other kid.
