Common Medical Procedures for Treating Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are treated medically by either removing or closing the defective veins. Among different procedures, the surgeon selects the apt one for the patient considering various factors. Removal or closure of veins does not cause problems to the patient as blood starts to flow through other veins immediately.

SCLEROTHERAPY: This treatment is used to treat smaller varicose veins by closing those veins using liquid chemical injections. This treatment may require several sessions to close a vein.

LASER SURGERY: Laser Surgery requires no incisions, injections or chemicals. Laser is applied in the varicose vein which makes the vein to fade away. This procedure is useful in handling smaller varicose veins.

ENDOSCOPIC VEIN SURGERY: This procedure is adopted in severe cases of varicose veins; the surgeon makes an incision in the skin near the varicose vein and inserts an endoscope. The surgical device in the endoscope closes the vein.

ENDOVENOUS ABLATION THERAPY: Endovenous ablation involves the generation of heat to close off a varicose vein. Usually lasers or radio waves are used to generate heat. The doctor will use a catheter to insert the heating mechanism to close off the vein.
