Final Project Current Event Debate

Directions Report on an issue that has been debated in the last 10 years. Describe what caused the controversy. Be sure to cover both Point of Views of the debate, the Pro and Con. Topic must be phrased in the form of a question with a yes (pro) and no (con) answer. Selections must be approved.

What to include in your project Start with some brief background information on your issue. Then give the pro and con Point of Views about your question. Cover each side of your controversy with balance. Finally end with your opinion on which side is you agree with and why.

Options for your Project You may work by yourself or in a group Groups may be 2 or 3 people If you work in a group, all people will receive the same grade regardless of how they divide up the work. Turn in only 1 written report with everyone's name on it. Turn in a grading sheet.

Project Requirements Oral Presentation Written Report

Oral Presentations 5 – 7 minutes. Everyone in the group must speak. Presentation should include visual aids; –PowerPoint –Overhead –Poster, books, regalia –Video, DVD –AVI, MP3, audio tape –Handouts Order of Presentation –Start with your question –Next give some background information. –Next explain both sides of the issue, the pro then con POV. –End with your opinion. If you are working in a group each person must give their separate opinion

Written Report pages total, number pages Order –Begin with a Title Page –Then overview –Timeline –Documents with POV’s –Additional Documents –Finish with Bibliography

Title Page –Put in the front of your report. This should be the first page. Include the following; Your Question about your topic the report is on Names of people in group Period Subject Teacher’s Name

Overview Follow the title page with a 3-5 page typed overview of your topic; –Start with some background information. –Next explain both Point of Views of the issue, Pro then Con. –End with your opinion. If you are working in a group each person must give their separate opinion font, single or double spaced. Use subheadings to divide your analysis. Presentation and overview should follow the same format. Make sure your presentation and report are balanced, showing both the pro and cons of your question. Turn 3-5 page typed overview in to turnitin.com by 7:30 am on June 4

Timeline Cover entire time frame for your issue Try not to have major gaps. Have at least 5 events. Make sure it analyzes the events (because). List the date, event, evidence, then underneath give the analysis.

Document Evaluation Download two opposing documents about your question from the internet, one for the pro POV, one for the con POV. Show the web address. Write a POV statement for each document that evaluates the information you got as to its reliability and accuracy. Remember Author, Background, their belief and why they have that point of view. Use the authors background to analyze the bias and point of view of your source.

Also In Written Report Additional Documents –Articles –Maps –Photos –Drawings –Charts –Graphs –Tables –Letters Make sure you explain why your documents are helpful.

Bibliography Put in the back of your report. Should be typed and the last page. Need at least 5 sources Should be Annotated: describe how the source helped you in your research
