AMOUNT OF ASYLUM SEEKERS IN RECENT YEARS asylum seekers before October After September 2015 there are predicted to be nearly asylum seekers.

FACTS 78% of asylum seekers are men, 22% are women. One asylum seeker costs 40€ per day to the government.

WHY DO THE REFUGEES COME TO FINLAND? The conditions in the refugee camps have changed for worse They have heard that Finland is a peaceful country where you can get residence permit easily and quite fast Family reunification Good education system Social benefits Dreams of a free country

THE ROUTES OF ASYLUM SEEKERS TO FINLAND Most of the asylum seekers arrive in Finland via Tornio, Lapland, which shares an open border with Haaparanta in Sweden. Still in last spring most of them arrived through the ports of Helsinki and Turku, which were the main points of entry. a new railway connection from Southern Sweden to Luleå in Northern Sweden has been opened, which may make it easier for the asylum seekers to come to Finland.

WHERE ASYLUM SEEKERS LIVE AND THE HOUSING CONDITIONS. When the refugees come to Finland, they will usually be placed to reception centers Because the number of refugees has exploded, many of them have had to settle down to provisional housing. There is a law in Finland which says: The purpose of this Act is to support and promote integration and make it easier for immigrants to play an active role in the Finnish society. The purpose of the Act is also to promote gender equality and non- discrimination and positive interaction between different population groups.
