13 A recent Italian research about stereotypes and discriminations
For the majority of citizens ( 57.7 %) the situation of men in our country is better than the women’s one. For four out of ten citizens (43.7%), women are victims of discriminations, that is they are treated worse than men. Anyway some stereotypes about traditional gender roles have been overcome: In fact 77.5 % of the population does not agree with the view that men must take the most important decisions concerning the family. The vast majority of the population disagrees with the statements: "men are better leaders than women" ( 80.3 % ) " men in general are better political leaders than women “ ( 79.9%). 67.7 % of the population believes that : " for a woman family responsibilities are an obstacle for becoming a leader or a manager”. for 89 , 2 % " men should participate more in the care and education of their children " 87 ,7 % says that " in a couple in which both partners work full-time , housework should be divided equally “. 9th December, 2013
